Ok.....a year or two ago I decided I wanted to learn guitar.....got lots of good advice from ya'll about what to stay away from and what to look for in an entry-level guitar. So.. I have returned with new questions, this time about keyboards! I'm looking for a MIDI-capable keyboard under $300 to be used mostly for creating techno/trance type music with the computer. (ie, this'll be used for input to the computer, not performances or anything like that, and because I have the computer, I don't need the ability to do all the work on the keyboard itself) So far I've found one that I'm actually thinking about getting: Evolution 461C. I'm also considering the Suzuki SP-47 or the Suzuki SP-67 if I can find a decent deal on a -67 I'd prefer to buy new, not used.....so anyone have any advice about the models I'm looking at, or suggestions for quality alternatives? I'd like one of these: Yamaha S03, Roland Juno D, or Roland RS50 they're a little out of my price range ![]() The local store is a joke -- they have a lot of non-midi capable keyboards, and then they have 10 year old models still priced at their original prices (example: Roland RS-30 still listed at $1399.99) |
| With the advent of MIDI, the brands don't matter so much anymore. I use a cheap Yamaha keyboard with built-in speakers, cause it's much cheaper than most synths and I only need it for the MIDI controller aspect. I have tons of software on the computer that are actually my synths, so the keyboard is of little importance. As long as it has a MIDI out, I am happy. |
Thats pretty much the situation I'm in I'm just wondering if anyone had any advice of what I should be looking for that the ones I'm looking at don't have, or if they have "featuers" that are more trouble than they're worth, or whatever. |
| My input is simply that if you're not going to be using the actual sounds from the keyboard, then all that's really important is what features you desire. Volume and pitch bend wheels are nice. More keys is always nice. Weighted keys would really be nice. But I have been making do with my $150 Yamaha for years now and it fits the bill just right. Plus, it has all of this crap on there like MIDI files of your favorite Disney songs and visuals on how to play them that my kids love. If money wasn't tight, I'd probably go with the Korg Triton series of workstations though. |
