Seriously, I have heard of attaching a string from the mag to the handguards, and i guess you could use duct tape for this. However, I am at a loss as to what it is for.

If your talking about the armored car scene, I'm pretty sure he had a stopwatch duct taped to the rifle.

I'd have to double check to be sure.

I just watched the scene about a half dozen times. Every time you see the stopwatch, it could have been just De Niro holding the watch. maybe someone else has got better eyes....
