Question for a AR fan at work

Does anyone other than ZM Weapons offer a AR side-folder?  What do yall think of ZM in general?

actually, id go for a foldable stock for an AR--cause it'll be more compact

what happens to the buffer tube/ assembly???

There is no buffer tube on the Oly-93s / ZMs, but a set of springs on rails like you'd find inside an AK or HK-type rifle that run atop the bolt on either side of the gas system.

I'm really quite partial to this design and am disheartened that this style upper did not attain any sort of mass acceptance or following. Sadly, the Oly and ZM uppers run in the $1200 - $1500 range.

I'd so buy one for $200 though.

An adjustable-length stock has FAR more utility than a folding stock.  Yes, the ZM does both, but at a huge penalty in weight and cost.

Troy, you're also selling short a replaced gas system that doesn't blow crud directly into your action. So it actually does offer something besides utility.

That said, I've owned both the ZM and the OA systems. The OA would be GREAT...if there was a way to have iron sights. For the price, that's what you'll sacrifice. The ZM was awesome. Thousands of round without so much as a hiccup, good ergonomics, generall a GREAT setup. Good irons, easy to setup for a cowitness red dot. Accurate as all get out. I was pleased.

In the end, I am back to the tradional gas tube AR. If you like the folding stock and the piston operation it's probably worth every penny of what you'll spend on it. Neither of those was a big deal to me. You might check with (is it Treetop?) as I think he also has a new upper out. I also recall POF has one coming out. Both should be appreciably cheaper than the ZM.

I'd take damn near any kind of upper you want to send for $200, let alone something similar to a ZM.......

?  Neither the ZM or the OA93 is a gas piston system.  The only major difference is that the recoil system has been relocated to the upper.

Thanks for the info.

A buddy a work asked about them and mentioned the $1500 price tag

Personally, my M4 stocks are good enough for me.

I had forgotten about the Oly upper.

Thanks again.

i didn't know we were talking about the HK 91/93?

the AR blows most of the croud out the ejection port, thru the gas vent holes in the side of the bolt carrier.

ACE has a folder adaptor that will take the CAR or M4 tele stocks, so you can "get both", however it'll add to the LOP and doesn't seem really practical.

side folders are more compact, but unless you drive an econo box the M4 should be compact enough.

the ZM, Oly 93 and Daewoo all suffer from non-standard parts syndrome.
