Just noticed some termite tunnels on the exterior foundation of my house.   Mainly on one side of my residence.   About 8 tunnels in all.   This is in Arizona.  Phoenix area.   Desert termites, if that makes a difference.   My first inclination was to call an exterminator, but upon reflection is there some stuff I can buy at Home Depot/Lowes that  would kill them off?

Or should I leave this to a professional exterminator??

A pro will check and treat places you'd never even think of.

That happened to me a few years ago when it was very rainy.  I looked into  the self applied treatments but decided on the professional.

I shopped around  and found a wide range of prices.  At that time there were two types of treatments. One was the bait and poison  system where bait is placed  around the house in perforated plastic tubes.  It is checked every  month (for which you pay) and if termites are found, the bait is replaced with poison.

I selected the barrier treatment that is applied and stays for 10 years or longer. It is made by Bayer.  It is called Premise 75.  It was less money and looked  like it would work better.

I worked as a termite technician for a year back in college. Of course back then we still had Chlorodane and a professional treatment was guaranteed for 20 years.

Anyway, if you have already found tunnels then there probably damage already so you may want to check the area where you have to treat. Sentricon seems to be the favorite flavor-of-the-week as far as bait systems go. But I'm sure one thing has not changed, and that is you have to be a licensed professional in order to get any of the stuff that works.
