www.af.mil/news/story.asp?storyID=123009087 excerpt: 11/2/2004 - WASHINGTON -- Responding to Airmen’s feedback, Air Force leaders unveiled an alternative utility uniform color scheme and pattern Nov. 2 as part of the ongoing wear-test that was announced in August 2003. Secretary of the Air Force Dr. James G. Roche, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. John P. Jumper and Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Gerald R. Murray are now wearing the latest test version of the utility uniform during visits to Airmen serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The most striking change in this version is the switch from a deep blue, gray and green color scheme to a more subdued mix of tan, blue and two shades of green. And the tiger-stripe pattern is now pixilated. This test version includes design changes incorporated in September based on feedback from Airmen. ... |
Damnit Jim! I did a search for "Air Force" and "BDU" and got NOTHING. I never thought to try "USAF" and I NEVER would have thought "utility uniform!" |

the blue uniform isn't that fucking bad. I'd gladly ditch my fucking bdu's for the new uniform. the only changes i'd prefer are to have the pockets set up like the marine uniforms... if they leave just two pockets on the blouse, slant them and add the shoulder pocket that the bullet catchers have on theirs, if they keep them straight, throw the other two pockets back on! for the trousers, slant the pockets slightly, or make them elastic.. and loose the fucking marine style cap! About the only thing i am HEAVILY against is the use of the 7point cap, thats a marine tradition, we shouldn't take it from them. the blue colors are really not that bad... and it's better than the BDUs most of the people who bitch about it are retirees and other asshats who wont be wearing them anyway. |
Blue is ghey period. The USAF will be the laughing stock of the world wearing blue camouflage |
I'm not sure what your background is, but plenty of other Air Forces use a blue camouflage pattern already. |
| Navy is feilding some new stuff that is similar. Black and Gray pattern to repolace, working blues, dungarees(utilities), blue coveralls, and kaki's for E-7 on up. Personally I like the Johnny Cashs' we wear and the blue coveralls are not that bad. I hate the utilities and summer whites. So some BDU type uniform will be cool but not to replace everything we have. |

The whole idea of slanted pockets is to have access to them when wearing armor. When the fuck are you going to wear armor and this uniform at the same time? I hate to say it but for once the Army has it right. One multi-purpose uniform... they can wear it in the Middle East and they can wear it in Korea. Now that's smart! What's the Air Farce do? They want a new uniform and make it so impractical that not only will they still have to issue DCU's but they'll have to issue BDU's for anybody deploying to Korea. I love my branch of service but damn, I understand why we're laughed at. Dg84 |

Blue and grey camo is used in urban enviroments, helps troops blend into the background better. Where are the majority of air force personnel going to be? On base, or in the city buying martini mixers for their office liquor cabinet. The only ones who really go anywhere are the air jocks themselves, and they get flight suits. So really, blue and grey camo makes perfect sense for the desk jockeys. |
My guess is not very many... Like stated above only the REMF's are going to be wearing this uni. My guess is that anybody that as a chance to make contact with the enemy for example, PJ's CCT's and TACP's will be wearing a version for the Army uniform. Hell, last year in Afganistan we wore pretty much whatever we wanted. |
