Is it illegal to have an M16 bolt and bolt carrier in a AR15? Ive seen conflicting answeres. |
Maybe. I don't know! Could you repeat the question? You're not the boss of me, no! You're not the boss of me, no! You're not the boss of me, no, and you're not so big! You're not the boss of me, no! You're not the boss of me, no! You're not the boss of me, no, and you're not so big! Life is unfair....... |
I'm not a lawyer. You're in Texas. Go to a gunshow. I hear y'all have some good ones. Buy a bolt. try it out. If it somehow turns your AR into a full-auto (hint: it won't), take it out and throw it in the nearest ditch. If it doesn't, you're ok. Perfectly legal. Clear as mud, huh? Thank the ATF. |

I have seen older Colt SP1's with factory carriers that were round on the rear. I have a Colt .22 conversion still in it's original packaging that not only has a round rear section, says clearly on the package that it is for either the AR15 or M16 rifles. The copyright date on the package is 1987 I believe, I would imagine that Colt is somewhat familiar with the laws regarding machine guns, and would have had a disclaimer on the package if thier was any reason that every Tom, Dick and Harry should not be using them in Semi only rifles. ETA: I have been told that it is illegal to use the M16 carriers in semi guns, but as far as I can tell it is the trigger parts that the ATF looks at, same as with an AK (most AKs sold include military bolt carriers, that would trip the sear if it were present). |

well among many AK fables its not the bolt again that makes it full auto, the best thing about an AK full auto(bolt) that never migrated over to the semi -auto is the fireing pin spring!! It could and would account for many less charging discharges! And an M16 carrier is dope, cause it has the right ammont of weight to carry the bolt back at the right speed!! I just put a 3-position stock on my sporter, and I swear the springs that came with it were damn near the lenght of my original spring! And yes my bolt is an M16 bolt!!! Bob |
The Polytech semi only AK's do indeed have a firing pin spring, there are others but I don't recall which ones right now. |
Not all of them do. My 223 AKS (serial number under 200), I've had it since 1987 and it was preowned even then, doesn't and it will double and triple if loaded with ammuntion using softer primers. |
