1. What kind of shot can you use with a vent ribbed barrel?

2. Aside from Buckshot and slugs, what kinds of shot could you use for defense?

3. If you have to, could you use game loads or other copper loads in a 12 gauge for defense?

1. Any, doesn't matter.

2. Those two are the best, but at across the room distances, even bird shot isn't going to tickle.

3. Yes, though why not get ones made for the job?

With a shotgun, you could use just about any load for self defense.  Of course, you will need to be closer with some.  And the lighter loads won't have knock down power, but they can still blind and maim.

At room distance, even 7 1/2 birdshot hasn't really begun to spread much.  For practical purposes, at 5 yards birdshot will make one big, messy hole.

There is a shotgun forum, you know.
1. Like the other have said, any shot. What kind of choke does it have?
2. Nothing. Single or double ought buck, or slugs, or stay home.
3. If you have to, you could use .22lr for defense. Take the opportunity to plan ahead and have the right ammo.

There are 2 that I am curious about. 1 is a "coach" gun with full choke barrels. No removable chokes. The other has 5 chokes which are designated by stars. I'm not sure what they mean.

Post it in the shotgun forum. You should get the right answer, soon enough.
What shotgun is it that has the removable chokes?
