When I was stationed at Gordon, a new sidewalk was poured. The next day someone from the Army Corps of Engineers inspected it. The next day it was ripped out and replaced. If a project is not build to standards, it will get taken out and replaced. I think this is what happened with the helipad. |

If the helipad was level with the lawn, then it would be sloping slightly too. Is a sloped helipad the best idea? I'm not a construction engineer or a helicopter pilot, but it seems a bad idea to me. |

I'm not a helicopter pilot but I am a fixed Wing pilot and I have been a passenger in a lot of helicopters. yeah it's a bad idea when you're starting from scratch to have it on a freaking slope. and anybody who can see that is a whiny b*tch |

It is concrete with a thin asphalt layer on top and 7,300x150 feet. After the new asphalt was down the ACE came in and measured it and found it to be thinner than the contract said it would be. Contractor had to scrape it all up again and replace it at no cost to the .gov. I can only imagine somebody got fired for that one! |

If the lawn was sloped that bad, why TF did they build the pad to match that slope? Makes me wonder if it really matched the slope of the lawn, or did it look weird because the lawn was sloped? |

From what I can tell from pictures the pad just sits lowers than the White House sidewalks. The concrete pathway from the White House to the pad slopes down. The pad is level just lower than the White House. ”The terrain features a noticeable natural incline or downward slant—measuring roughly 20 to 22 degrees in various sections—that descends as you move away from the South Portico toward the southern perimeter” I guess we will see, but I think what they are doing is raising the top of the pad to the same level as the White House and then will build up the lawn area surrounding it. The part circled in red goes down hill to the lower pad. Attached File |

That's an f'd up reason to tear it down and re-do it. Could be. But there could be other issues too; you don't know. There's an engineering plan for the pad somewhere. What does that plan say, and was the plan being followed, or did the contractor screw something up? No one posting here is going to know though, or if they do they won't be able to post about it. |

As a preface, a friend of the family was a carpenter, and spent 2 years renovating a summer home for a CEO of a large company. Each time they would complete a project, the dude's fickle wife wouldn't like it and they'd have to tear shit down and redo it. Install a staircase, tear it down and relocate it. Build a wall, tear it down. Install flooring, tear it up. One of the last straws was the dude's wife wanted a structural wall removed. Dumbass reasons to redo stuff triggers my 'tism. |

It might have something to do with an emergency response plan too, it's easier and safer to move stretchers or other equipment on level surfaces. I'm curious, but as before, I doubt we'll ever get an answer.

| The N_T, leftists, and assorted others crying about a few million for a helipad or a couple billion for a ballroom when there are hundreds of billions funneled to leftist NGOs, the DNC, and fraud, waste, and abuse. Like these projects even move the fucking needle. Give me a fucking break. Where was GWB, 0bama, Xiden, and the rest to expose and try and stop the hundreds of billions stolen from the working, tax paying stiffs? Guess who has been doing that? Yeah, lets have a state dinner for the most powerful country in the history of the world in a fucking tent. |
