It's going to be the most fantastic helipad in the history of the country. Personally I'd rather see dollars spend on projects like this than on studying rat fecies in Nairobi, or the sexual practices of the aardvark in Kenya. |

Yeah, the comment was fishy so I looked it up. It’s been landed vertically on standard concrete highways many times. There is a possibility of minor spalling or cracking with repeated use. It won’t blow it apart. |

I know they’re working on updating that but umpteen years later a billions over budget shit still ain’t done. If you were an army or navy pilot in the 80s or 90s and flew Blackhawks or sea kings then that’s what you have. It’s kept simple, cheap, and reliable for a singular reason - it’s a no fail mission. You can’t abort if a computer doesn’t boot up properly. You don’t tell the president to wait while your egi aligns or some silly flight control computer has to go through a 90 second self test. There’s nothing inherently wrong with old equipment if it does what you need. It’s usually more reliable, cheaper, and more durable than fancy bleeding edge equipment. |

Asphalt vs. concrete, too, unless we are including interstates in the conversation. |

This intense, rapid heating causes the moisture inside standard Portland cement concrete to expand rapidly, leading to explosive cracking, spalling, and surface destruction. I’m not sure it even matters in the context of this thread. |

I’m not sure it even matters in the context of this thread. I'm not doubting it can land on a regular concrete surface. I just posted what I found. Its says it can be done but not recommended over long term. Take a blow torch to concrete and you will start to see it blow apart in small little chunks. You will hear it will pop as it starts to disintegrate. |

I was just using your post to show AI responses can be all over the place. Opposite answers on more or less the same question. I wouldn’t rely on any answer without some other proof or personal knowledge about the question/subject being asked. |

That seems a bit aesthetic since any snow or ice is no match for the helicopter's engines. |

Nice. Like sidewalks and driveways in Montana. |
| That seems to be pretty close to the building. Maybe because I have never seen that perspective. |

The dems conveniently don’t mention the construction is privately funded. And NEVER mention how many people could be fed by the countless millions in political donations they gladly accept. That said the helipad also needs some sort of rising barrier installed on the public view side to protect from the wacko that may try to take shots at the president. |

Here's an Osprey destroying a park. ![]() Osprey doesn't like landing pads With the Osprey it's not just the rotor wash, but also the jet exhaust that's pointed down from the nacelles. Rotors are also a little smaller diameter, moving more air in a smaller volume. My concern with the helipad is that it seems too close to the building for my taste. Should have been more out to the middle of that grassy area. If they could operate the -22 it would make some short hops vastly faster and more efficient. One would have to be suitably configured, but they could do a short hop to almost any northeastern city direct on the -22 instead of helo to Andrews, airliner to the city, helo or motorcade to destination. A -22 could cut the airliner out of the equation. Originally Posted By sandboxmedic: Originally Posted By realwar: The old landings are slower and take some time. They're landing it on those little pads for the landing gear, and of course trying to make as smooth of a landing as possible. |
