i have a coworker that is my backup in the area we service. Today i watched him try to fry 2.5million dollors worth of equipment on an install. The electrician asked him what to run and he told them 2 480vac for the power system. The cable specifically stated they were rated for no more than 250v ac and it was CLEARLY marked on the rack. I caught it just as hes was plugging in the cords and about to power on.

This dumbass has been a PIMA for 5+ years and is COMPLETELY freaking incompetant. Anyone have an opening for a village idiot? I need to find him a new career!!

Sorry just needed to vent before i have a stroke.....

mike

Oh dear lord he just called me again.. he can't find the damn power switch on a machine he has been serviceing for 2 years....  I need a valium.

Oddly enough, I've seen more than one person do something like this and that is exactly what management did.

This guy sounds like one of those people who gets smacked upside the head again and again by the hard way and never learns a damn thing.

If you can't get him fired, get him to quit.

[Home Improvement] 240, 241, whatever it takes[/Home Improvement]

I saw a 'tech' spend a Saturday trying to get the second little cabinet of an (older, beige)AS400 started.  It was a used unit and the vendor had big blue come in and hook it up.  Couldn't  find a bad power switch.

I despise 480.  Give that stuff a lot of respect and distance.  The flash bang when it goes to ground is a Kodak moment.

Another +1 ... I once covered for a co-workers incopetence and it came back to bite us in the ass much harder than it would have hurt if I just let him show his inability the first time.

Speaking of idiots and electricity ...

... I'm thinking of getting a small welder, to teach the Mustang from Hell who is really in charge around here (or set fire to my garage trying ).  I'm looking at two different cheap flux-core models.

But one of them uses 115V 15 amp, and the other one is 115V 20amp.  Are those BOTH okay with a regular household outlet?

Make sure somebody knows about this, the fact that you are babysitting a fellow worker!  To get this far he must have some connections!  Make sure when he does FRY  the system he doesn't try to blame you!!

You might be the one that  needs a raise!!!

i have made them aware. i have documented cases about him from 1998. i have presented them time and time again to management and even gone so far as to refuse to work with this idiot when i can.

Management frankly just does not care and it affects my review <not helping the team> whenever i bring it up.

DPMMNn

This was NEW Reggata system. the customer decided to remove all the cpu's and dasd and configure them at another site <BIG NONO> and reship the components to this site with NO documentation.

He called me again about 1030 last night i spent until about 3am this morning trying to unfuck his cableing. Customer finally said screw it. He is back out there now and has called me no less than 5 times this morning already.

I need a baseball bat and some prozac.
