Regardless of what reason were given for the invasion, somethings are clear.  The BILLIONS of dollars are not going to the Iraqis.  They are going to AMERICAN companies and American workers.  Our allies are also getting a chunk.  Second we are taking the fight to them.  Insurgents are not all Iraqis. There are other arabs there.  Our boys are getting killed but they would gladly fight to save their moms and their families from being attacked at home.  The price of oil is going up but we now control a percentage of the OPECs production.  That is the reason the frogs and jerries dont want us there.  Their fuel prices are outrages with their social programs.  We control the  oil we control their destiny.  You my friend are a waste of bandwidth and a simple thinker.

There are followers in this world and leaders  that question things.

cyanide,
I don't consider what the US is doing a quagmire and this is why...

The middle east is sitting on the resourses that make the world go round.
We used to be able to let or direct what ever happened over there work it self
out. But in my oppinion those days are over becouse of the take over by radicals.

The US and most of the rest of the world will not be served by letting those radicals
have control over a very important resource. Like it or not

eta The plains Indians of SD and ND had to travel to MN and MT each year through hostile
territories just to get lodge poles so they had a home. Jack pine doesn't grow everywhere.

Rome did not get that way over 800 years being stupid, we are barely 235 years old, we have been inovled in small wars for over 200 years, starting with the Barbary pirates, Mexico, the Indian wars, Pancho Villa, the Phillipines, the Boxers, all over the Caribbean plenty of times, Lebanon, Panama, Grenada, Bosnia and a host of other places. Iraq is a small war, a counterinsurgency. My point is we are taking the war to them as many empires have done and we are doing now, I know I admit being an empire and I am proud that we rule the world as the Persian, Greeks, Romans, Hapsburgs, French. Spaniards, and our mother country England did. There is no modern world, savagery was committed then as now....Are you denying we have military outposts in maybe over 100 countries......Change the scnario to today and the Roman cavalry would be QRFs, Styker Brigades, Rapid armor, MEFs, etc.......feel free to chime in.....

We have been there a little over a year now, have had a little over 1000 casualties, now control most of Iraq, turned over the operation of the government back to the Iraqis, have elections scheduled for January, have been killing hundred of terrorists, and THIS is a Quagmire?

I swear to god, you probably would be saying that World War I and II was a quagmire after some of the battles we fought throughout those wars.  This chicken-little attitude of liberals is amazing.  I think you all believe that during military operations if we don't get in and get out with NO casualties in less than 30 days then it is a miserable failure and quagmire.

WTF, over?

Can you people imagine what the outcome of WWII would have been if, at that period in time this country would have had the same amount of, and mindset as the libs have today. Holy crap, this world would be one very skerry, fu'd place.

Oh, please, you are really getting pitiful.  A distust of government in general, yet believing that we are doing the right thing in Iraq are not mutually exclusive things.

I am sure a lot of people in WWII did not trust the government completely, but I garauntee you that very few did not believe we were doing the right thing then.

You can compare the United States with the old Soviet Union?

We have about 20 times the GNP of the them. Our Army took them in a month long effort where the Soviets couldn't get it done in ten years. We're setting up elections and a "free" government. They attempted to put in a socialist puppet government.

Pretty much the same huh?

We are in the exact same position as they were --

occupying forces in a country full of constant rebel attacks...
