I think you have to be somewhat eccentric to come to something like this. Drinking is neither heavy, nor required. As long as you aren't bothered by others drinking no big deal. The distillery tour is still cool (and optional). Drinking is in no way required and honestly it is mostly pretty mild unless you decide to stay up quite late earning a headache. You can be as anonymous as you want but trust me, there is no reason to. Dude, we are all eccentric. It’s an amazing mix of talent, professions, and backgrounds. It is quite representative of the best ARFcom has to offer. |

We can call you John Smith, or Freddy, or anything else you dream up. My intention is to have name tags with username, first name, and state. You will have the option to blank any of those out. You will fit in if you like guns, night vision, and talking about them. You will fit in if you think a mortar is cool and having one to (legally) fire is cooler. You will fit in if you like sitting out under the stars at a campfire BSing with like minded individuals. It is truly an eclectic, friendly, wide ranging group. We will have all sorts of folks there, with all sorts of experiences and expertise. If you have any expertise you would like to share, we may setup a class time for that! If not, and you want to sit in your chair and watch the folks mill around, that works too! |

As time approaches, we need to get serious about seminars/training/show-and-tell! Anyone willing to step up and offer a class, speak up NOW! Let me know what you can offer, what you need, etc. We will have ham radio, it will be much better than last year, I'll be bringing much better antennas. We have an offer to do a fox hunt, maybe even a COLA Nerf event! Let me know what you are willing to do, or, what you would really like to see. |

@TVille and I had a productive conversation regarding the fox hunt a couple days ago. We have some ideas on how to make it a fun, competitive event for two teams who would race through separate points to a shared end goal. Hopefully we can incorporate some light land nav elements into the course that should pair well with the HAM radio skills. If there is a lot of interest in the hunt- more than would fill two teams- there is an alternative layout that could allow for several teams to run a linear course, at staged intervals, trying to compete for the best time. I have the supplies for the direction finding antennas, and hope to post some construction photos once I can make progress. An upcoming busy stretch of work will delay that, but hopefully they are done in about two weeks. After that, I plan to make some moves on completing the foxes- radio beacons which will be hidden, and that the teams will need to locate in sequence to complete the course. |
