Listed as a manual transmission

I'm thinking "wtf, you're allowed to sell cars?"

It wasn't ignorance, its a designed bait and switch tactic to get you in the seat of it at least.

If that coating really does what they tell you then the manufactures would be putting it on before they leave the plant.

Weird they don't do that for some reason.

I guess people are ignorant or simply don't care. I don't get it.

I’m sure there’s plenty that don’t care as long as that monthly payment works.

The regionalization definitely might have something to do with it, down here in TX I believe everything has to go through the “Gulf States Toyota” franchise thing which is some kind of middle-middleman between Toyota and the dealers. Certainly no room for scumminess there.

Fuck dealerships.

Abolish them.

When I bought my new Mazda, the sales guy picked me up to drive me to the dealership.   During the ride, he told me how glad he was he got the paint and interior protection.  I reminded him that the car I was buying has coated leather seats and they better not touch it.  We listened to music the rest of the drive.

Slimy fucks.

I never understood why places like carmax were able to sell stuff for more than "current retail" but then you deal with a slimy car salesman and it's all very clear.

I test drove a car at Carmax, and the road noise was noticeable.  "It's the brand of tires" says the Carmax guy.  Upon further research, that model car was known for road noise, and the manufacturer fixed it in later years.  So they ain't that pure.

This. Just starting the search for a new/used car for the wife, have stepped on 2 lots so far and already tired of it. First lot (a GMC/Buick dealer) was actually low pressure and fine. Second one (and subsequent internet searches of the cars she's interested in) had all the sliminess I remember from past car purchases, but they've seemed to have kicked it up to 11 in the past few years. Thousands of dollars of add-ons that I'll have to argue about.

- MINIMUM $1k "dealer fee"
- Lojack
- Paint and Fabric Protection
- Anti-microbial whatever
- Nitrogen-filled tires
- Rain Repellent (I guess the paint protection doesn't protect against rain)
- Headlight coating
- VIN etching
- AC "refresh"
- Door edge guards

The minimum I've seen tacked on in the fine print on dealer websites is $1500, going up to $3500-4000. And these are on the most ordinary cars out there - the dealers literally have hundreds on the lots - Honda Accords, Mazda CX-5's , etc.
