$4,000 added to the price for “paint protection” which I assume is a phrase for fancy wax. Nope. |

| Fucking stealerships. I've spent a lifetime avoiding those bastards. Any time I've considered a new car, a short visit and chat with the ignorant sales dweeb cures that thought in a hurry. |
Feb 2025 It’s 48 to 0 and we’re only 2 minutes into the first quarter

| I think that some states have actually made that illegal. I hate bait and switch. If the price is in an ad or on the website that should be it. It should not be so hard to get a real out the door price. I am curious if we will ever see a model where the pricing is up front. I never understood why places like carmax were able to sell stuff for more than "current retail" but then you deal with a slimy car salesman and it's all very clear. |

Take it off. Take the paint protection off or I don't buy the car. I've gotten my window's engraved with the VIN and an alarm system on my Jeep for free when I refused to pay for their outrageous cost and was willing to walk. |

A few years back when the daughter moved back in with us I went to get her a used car at a dealership. They tried to add $500 to the price because of the “paint protectant”, they wouldn’t take it off. This wasn’t the sales woman it was the finance guy that added it. We got up and walked out. As I looked back she went storming to his office. We went on down the road to another dealer and they kept calling wanting us to come back. Finally had to block her number. |

Ours had a $700 up charge for “blue diamond glass protection”. Supposedly a miracle product applied to the windshield to keep it from cracking. What it really is, is a windshield insurance policy you are forced to buy. Jokes on them. We live near a rock quarry and have had to have the windshield replaced three times in fours years. Because of the tech in the windshield, it would have cost us $700 each time. |

"Cool. Have a great day!" Preferably AFTER you've test driven it and they're sure they have you hooked. I personally wouldn't waste my time explaining why you're leaving. If they cannot figure it out themselves, they're not going to listen when you tell them, either. It's up to you, but I'd never walk through their door again, either. |

Local jeep dealer always upcharging for extra crap above factory. They list it on the sticker as dealer added items such as paint protection, window whatever, etc... I asked about that once when window shopping. "Oh we can negotiate the price of those things." Pffft. Said I'll check back when you have a straight sticker base model available. |
|
I believe that in my state of CT if a car dealer puts a price on a advertised car they have to sell it only adding Sales tax, registration and title fee. Not that they don't try and add on stuff but if you put your foot down they have to sell it to you for advertised price |
|
I'm generally amazed/concerned with how little salespeople tend to know about the cars they're selling. I'm admittedly a car guy and I obsess over knowing the specs/options on whatever I'm shopping for. I don't necessarily expect them to be on that level, but when I show up to look at a car that's: Listed as a manual transmission Sales guy confirms it's a manual I get in and it's a automatic ![]() "This isn't a manual" "Yeah, it has the manual mode" I'm thinking "wtf, you're allowed to sell cars?" |

FWIW, the AWD is absolutely awesome. It does incredibly well in rain and snow. I bought a '25 off the lot (ORP) and I think the AWD will be something I miss the most. |

Toyota dealers just seem particularly bad about the “value added” crap they tag onto the sticker. |

A top quality ceramic job doesn’t even cost that much. I’m talking using the top end stuff, not the autostore spray on shit. (Some of which is quite good.) Originally Posted By DriftPunch: For my info, what does a pro detailer charge for a really good ceramic coating? Strip wash, clay, polish and paint correction, washing in between some of these. Good ceramic is expensive and must cure like 24hrs for some of them. Even a normal detail is in the mid-hundreds, depending on work. Detailers can make good money and do a great job. After one vehicle, I’ve had it, and I’m half assing it. Lol. But, there is no fucking way a dealership shelled out $1k or $2k for a detail job and then marked it up. They had the min wage guy spray on some Turtle Wax ceramic spray (which isn’t bad stuff fwiw). Never let a dealership wash your car, even if it is a luxury dealership (unless they have a real detailer). I know of a Bentley/RR/AM dealership that takes them to the carwash lol. You should see what it costs to, correctly, PPF an entire vehicle. |

OP, maybe consider finding one at a CarMax if the dealers in your area are bad. The prices and processes and CarMax are not gonna include that stuff. |

I wouldn’t like it being a mandatory up charge but not necessarily against it if it meant hassle free windshield replacements. At least has some actual value to it unlike most BS protection packages. |

I wonder if it's a regional thing. Around here the Stellantis dealers are the scummiest. We do have a Toyota dealer local that still has every vehicle marked up 5k. What's wild is people still buy them vs going an extra 30 minutes away to the next dealer who doesn't do this practice. I guess people are ignorant or simply don't care. I don't get it. |

Toyota paint sucks. Toyota clearcoat is guaranteed to fail at or around the 10 year mark that is if the paint doesn't peel off before then. |
| We went shopping for a new minivan. One dealer had 1 in stock, 3k worth of dealer add ons, and it was missing the roof rack all of the others came with. Some of the add ons included paint protector for 1k, 1k for "lost key replacement insurance" etc...We laughed and walked away. |
| Also, as far as I'm aware most of the better brands don't pull that kinda stuff with their CPOs. Now of course a Porsche or MB CPO is prolly gonna be quite different in its CPO process from that of a Chevy or Ford, but I've never experienced that that kinda stuff when getting a CPO from a better dealer. |

| That’s clearly illegal under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act. I would contact them again in writing and let them know your happy to purchase at the original advertised price, otherwise you’ll be making a complaint to the Texas Attorney General and Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. Try and include the general manager on any communications. |

But then again so does buying a Toyota and at a Dealership for that matter. Fools and their money come to mind. |

Ford has believed in CPO for a long time. I know when I would put a Lincoln on CPO for our used inventory that I only selected the best 1-3 year old cars we had, either from Ford sale or trade ins. There were standards that absolutely had to be met. Didn't throw any bullshit addons at them either. Buy a CPO from me back in my day, you were getting the best we had. |
I was in back when we had to have shiny boots and not fuck each other in the ass.

One time I looked at some Audi CPOs for shits and giggles, and at least for one of the dealers here in NOVA, I was appalled by how many they were offering at one time that had been in crashes. It was pretty bad IMO, and sadly shocking. |
