XD or Glock?  Which is better and why?

XD.  'Cause it's not a Glock.

Id have to vote for the XD. i own an XD9sc and its pretty nice. Light enough to be comfortable carrying and it seems to point better then the Glock IMO....

XD

edited to add the why,

no need to buy an after market barrel to shoot lead reloads
reliability every bit as good
better grip
better trigger
better accuracy <for me>
So far very few reported KBs
SA does not support ballistic fingerprinting of weapons
Price runs about 75-150.00 cheaper here.

there have been reports that the finish is not as durable as glock but i have not had an issue with mine.

Glock=years of proven reliablty +at least 1000 times more glocks  in service  than xd.

Will the xd be labeled as reliable as a glock if it ever reached glocks level? I doubt it will or could.

Glock is the kalishnikov of pistols imho.

There is a glock that has had 250k rds thru it and still shoots. You can leave a glock buried for a year and still shoot it. The finish is ok I guess

In terms of reliability, my local indoor range(now closed) has a Glock 17 that has shot 500,000 rounds on the original frame and slide(slide cracked and was replaced at this point), and 750,000 on the original frame. The gun has probably shot more because system only counts ammo bought from the range, and people often smuggle in ammo from the outside.

You realize in buying an XD you are paying $500+ for a $200 dollar gun with the springfeild name on it?  Glock all the way their various service records are unapproachable with the exception of H&K, maybe.

if not, i'd go w/ the glock
i think its more durable, reliable

sa's xd is made in croatia; and sa service/quality sucks

i'd take austria anyday over croatia

That's why I bought an HS2000.

Of course, I never saw even the HS2000 for $200.  $275-350 was typical.  Got mine for about $310.

I paid $400 for mine, and most places you can get them for well under $500.  The most anyone has been asking for ANY version of the XD around here has been $499.99 for the Subcompact 9mm with Henie night sights.  Tacticals in 9mm and .40 are going for about $459... I have heard of some folks getting prices as low as $300, which is very close to what the HS2000's were going for.  In addition to raising the prices a bit Springfeild Armory has brought us more options: 3" Subcompact in 9mm and .40,  the 4" Duty in .40 and .357 Sig (though there were a very small number of HS2000's imported in .40 before SA started importing them), and all three flavors of the Tactical---most of those probably wouldnt have happened if not for  SA marketing 'em.

Given enough time, I think they could approach Glock in the LE market, but I dont know if  SA plans to hound the LE agencies like Glock did in the 80's and 90's...

Yes, there is room for improvement... Glocks can KABOOM, XD's might rust.... but my XD-9 has a ton of rounds through it, and I trust my life to it.

+1 for the XD (and it looks like I'm not alone in saying so)

ETA: SA is also supposed to be bring the XD out in .45GAP (ALL YOU .45 ACP FANS FORM A LINE AND START BTICHING HERE...)

Having carried and shot both for work, I favor the Glock.
why?
1) My Glock never rusted or broke.
2) The magazine changeout is quicker/quieter with the Glock.
3) The backstrap safety can be a little weird sometimes shooting offhand.
4) The Glock disassembles easier.
5) Did I say the Glock never rusted?

The place I work is hard on firearms.  We shoot a lot.  They get worn in all types of weather and  banged around.   We have had a few problems with the XD (broken firing pins and the like).  Went to these from S&W...don't know why.  It is a matter of what you want and your particular application.  IMHO the Glock is proven and more durable.  The XD is a nice pistol, but personally I like the Glock, regardless of the politics.  Just my $.02 worth.

Edited to add why.
