Every store bought seems to have sugar.

I love the stuff, IF its done right.

Its just cabbage (some carrots), milk, vinegar, mayo, and sugar - but its so easy to screw up.

I love to throw it in the trash, does that count?

This is best coleslaw I’ve had.  The wife’s favorite too.

I use a half a head of cabbage, cut the lemon juice to two Tbsp, I don’t drain the anchovy tin, and I only use the green top of eight green onions.
My sister adds the grape tomatoes, I don’t.

I prefer the vinegar-based style.

Whether the type served at BBQ places in North Carolina or at the (four) fried chicken restaurants in Barberton, Ohio.

Try horseradish.

My wife makes the best slaw I've ever had. Very coarsely shredded. Red and green cabbage. Bunch of other stuff. It is spicy with horseradish. So good.

I just got back from Publix where I bought some angel hair cabbage.  I'll make up a 1/2 batch w/horseradish for my slaw dogs that I'm having for lunch.  Thanks for the idea.

I love it and usually make a batch at least once a week.
Mine has cabbage/carrot slices, vinegar, mayo, sour cream, apple cider vinegar, yellow mustard, celery seeds, onion powder, black pepper, and salt.
I don't like it very creamy, so I go very light on the mayo and sour cream.

I don't know if it was a southern thing, but back in '98 I was working down in Oxford, Miss the place I ate at had cole slaw that wasn't sweet like I'm used to.  It was a bit on the flat side, almost bitter, with a black peppery taste.  I've had another slaw at bbq places which had a spicy edge to it.

Best coleslaw I ever had was on a hot pastrami and swiss sandwich from a deli in Highland Falls NY

I guess it is a southern thing. My grandmother and mom made great coleslaw. There was no sugar anywhere near it. I hate KFC coleslaw because its chopped not shredded as has sugar .

The best way to do coleslaw is as follows.

Fairly coarse chopped or shredded cabbage.
Fairly fine chopped/shredded carrot.
Mayo to desired consistency.
1 tbsp of white vinegar add more to your liking. Vinegar adds a little bite and keeps the cabbage crisp.
Salt and pepper. Dried dill if you like.

Only acceptable variation is to add chopped bacon.
Then add chopped tomatoes per serving (it won't stay good long if mixed in.)
I generally omit the carrots when doing this but isn't a big deal really.

Even goes great on slaw dogs, fish or chicken tacos etc

I've found no better way and never had a complaint.

No sugar added, sweet coleslaw is for faggots and retards.

Coarse chopped and liberally filled with Marzetti's.

Best slaw you can get!

Long John's isn't bad if it does not have too much slaw dressing. I prolly made 3 tubs of LJS slaw a day for over 16 months. Yeah, I ate lots of it.

I got food poisoning from coleslaw decades ago and would touch the stuff.

20+ years go by and I was so damn hungry, I decided to break my personal rule and try some. I lived.

Now I just make sure I know who prepared it and when.

I like good slaw but still keep an eye out for craptastic cooks.

We've been fixing up about a batch every week since we discovered the (course) tri-color mix from walmart.

We've used both mayo-cider vinegar based, (Miracle Whip Light), and olive oil-cider vinegar based dressings.  Recently started substituting more lemon juice for vinegar.

KFC has always been my favorite but vs homemade, it's like eating a t-bone at a restaurant after you already learned how to cook one right at home.

I'm VERY picky about slaw. Slimy overly creamy slaw is nasty as hell.

A good slaw has a bit of bite, is fresh, doesn't coat your mouth and is delicious.

I'm about 25% tastes good and 75% it's nasty when it comes to slaw.

For whatever reason, KFC makes damn good slaw even if it's cut too fine. Pretty much the only thing worth a damn on  their menu. Gordons food service makes nasty overly slimy slaw.

That is coleslaw and Morrison's Cafeteria tartar sauce with the fish.  The Morrison's TS is a cabbage & onion based tartar sauce.  It rocks.

FanFUCKINGtastic on hotdogs.  Probably be great on pulled/chopped pork as well.  I'm not certain it would be my regular coleslaw version when used as a side.

It depends.

Certain slaw, I can’t get enough of.

Other stuff, I take one bite and slide the bowl away.

There’s a wide range of cole slaw recipes and not all are good.

My Mom always made great coleslaw. Sadly the recipe died with her. KFC coleslaw is the closest I've found, just a bit sweeter than hers.

Word to everyone.....ask your mom/grandmother/aunts/etc for their recipes. You won't always be able to do that.

Grated, no carrots.

1 tablespoon of white vinegar on the grated cabbage, 1 light tablespoon of sugar, blue plate Mayo until it clumps, add pepper.

Add tomatoes if you're gross.

This is great for slawdogs.
