what is considered a high post count, 1k, 5k, 10k?

Depends. I think that pretty much anything 3k or more is a high post count. I also note posting frequency too. i remember when 82ndAbn first started here, i thought he had an assistant to help him reply.

Even the vendors?

unless they are giving stuff away, then prob. not....the ones i have bought stuff from at least make some posts in the other parts of the forums

Why would you NOT buy from the dealers that support this site? That seems Moronic to me. Your actually saying we should buy from dealers WHO DO NOT make this forum possible? I would love for you to explain this statement to me.

Barbara Cartland cranked out more than 700 romance novels during her career.  Does sheer volume make her a significant figure in world literature?  If you're a bean counter, I guess.

That's not really a sound analogy.  If people didn't participate in this site, it wouldn't exist.  I like to read other people's opinions, learn what's going on in the world, and get answers to questions.  I assume that the other people on the site feel the same way.  If I ask a question, I like to get lots of answers and opions.  If someone else asks a question, I answer it if I can or if I have time.  Do unto others.  That's why the site works.

I voted "yes."  My reasoning mirrors what a few have stated already.  I believe that it does give you an impression of how involved someone is with the site.  In addition to the total posts, the registration date may reflect how long one nay have spent "lurking."  This, IMO, would carry some weight as well - it would assume that the poster has noticed and recognized things in the past and could offer a reasonable, if not, nearly expert opinion.

I have also noticed that many who may have a significantly lower post count than others may present a higher quality response than someone who offers no more than "+1."

I've heard and seen many times over that its the quality of the post not the quantity.

I voted yes, but it's really not an issue that's going to cause me to lose sleep either way. I do see some benefit to having post counts and registration dates. Many I mention will likely be repeats, but some may be new. Here are my thoughts:

1. Post counts and registration dates can be helpful to newbies who are seeking advice and input about firearms, ammo, gear, etc. A person who has been here several years and has several thousand or more posts has likely been very involved. They have seen many debates. They have seen lots of data and info. So chances are, they are going to have something valuable to add to a discussion. That's not to say people with low post counts are irrelevent or stupid. Some of the best posts I've ever seen here came from guys with 5 posts who had been here 2 days. But in general, I have more faith in experience and time involved. When I buy a gun or ammo, I generally go with stuff made by a company who's been in business long enough to have built up a good reputation. You won't see me buying a weapon or ammo from a company that's just getting started. I will wait until they've been around a year or so and then make up my mind based on what they've done and the feedback they get. That's kinda how I look at post counts. Whether good or bad, I can usually tell what type of person someone is by the time they've hit 500 or 1000 posts.

2. A post count shows your level of involvement. If you've got 10,000 posts, I think it's safe to say you at least care enough to participate. Participation is what keeps this place alive.

3. Think of the post count as a sort of badge of honor. It's really no different than moving from belt color to belt color in karate class. Other than learning and doing it for just the sake of  doing it, there isn't many other rewards for doing karate or posting here. When in Aikido, I would accept the belt progressions as I learned and moved on, but when I came to class the next time, I chose to wear my white belt always. Even when I made brown belt, I still wore the white one. The white belt is the beginner's belt and shows lowest rank. So while belt color didn't bother my ego, it did help motivate others in the class. So if a post count can help motivate some people to be more involved, then I am all for it. Afterall, it doesn't hurt anyone, that's for sure.

Now, considering all the other REAL problems in the world that need my attention, this is all the time I feel like putting into a subject that doesn't really matter to me anyway. But I say keep the post count. It's worked out well this long, why change? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Now, back to more important issues such as gun control, the AWB expiration, terrorism, etc.

We come together initially with a common interest..........the AR15.   My immediate family, in-laws, neighbors and co-workers don't share this interest.

There are real people here with valuable experience and knowledge that are willing to share their information with you.

Over time you learn insight about the people who post here, their other interests besides the AR, their sense of humor or lack of, some history about them and the quality of their input.

You get to see pictures of their weapons and gear, hear how they like it or why they don't.

Then one realizes that there is other "rooms" (forums) that offers other interests.   From handgun to General where you might learn about something happing in the world and how a real person feels about it rather than getting info from a generic  "NEWS" media.

There are funny posts that make me laugh and stupid posts that make me laugh.  There are good points, bad point and useless points.............but such is life.

We come from all walks of life, different parts of the country.  Listing to everyone has been a great learning experience and source of entertainment.

I would rather get on this site than watch a "Shit Com" on TV.   I would rather get on this site than go to a Strip Club.   Uh........................wait a minute..........I'm going a little too far on this one.

In the evening it is relaxing to get on this site and surf.  During the week I like to lay back after work, chase the treadmill and wrestle with the Soloflex.  On the weekends I'm on the go with the wife and family or going to gun matches.

So...................................

No to the post count.....  In what way does having a post count of 4,000,000 bring any legitimacy to what you have to say?

Yes to registration date.....  Differentiates the serious enthusiast from the troll

Just my 2 cents, in no way related to my post count / registration date......
