Since putting this together and shooting it, I like it quite a bit.  A mid-length would be a little better ergonomically for off hand position wrt to the light but I wouldn't feel bad if this was my HD gun.

Let's see your clones, or movie inspired builds.

Hi all, had to make an account and finally stop lurking to say that those are my dream builds. Great job. How did y'all mount the light under the fsb? As far as I know the surefire M16 mounts fit just fine, and the M14 need some metal shaved off to fit, but both are hard to find. There's a bunch of clones on Amazon and ebay, and mantis makes one as well. Do any of those fit without modification? What did you go with? Thanks in advance.

Not a movie clone, unless you want to say a generic Vietnam war film XM177E2 clone.

I’ve bought and sold lots of Colt N1 stocks on the EE. That said I haven’t touched the ‘new and improved’ EE. And I might have some experience in the EE.

New does not mean better.

The aluminum replicas are thicker and require rather significant modification to fit under the FSB gas tube.  You can do it with a file/dremel.  I did it by eyeballing it in a mill.

Welcome, Fellow Retro AR Enthusiast!

The light mount for this build is probably the most difficult part.

I've got a few from PSA.  They offer 2 pos and 5 pos, aluminum and plastic.  All of mine are 5 pos and plastic.  Don't care enough about retro accuracy to pay more money for a heavier stock.

M&A Parts. Assuming you just need the stock body (and not the receiver extension as well) it's $27.50.

I finally got around to watching Blood Diamond and now I'm contemplating a clone inspired build.  Are there any real suppressors that are small enough where they might look OK?

Using a fake moderator just bothers me.

I realize that sound reduction will be severely hampered.

Oh yeah!  That will do.  However, I kind of wish they used cones to get DBs down as opposed to making clone correct internals.

I’m building a Blood Diamond inspired rifle. Ordered a 607 flash moderator from Retro Rifles back in March.  When I emailed them in May about the order status they said they are waiting on their supplier to finish them. I’ve thought of canceling that order and get the TIA moderator from PSA.  And it’s a lot cheaper as well.
It’s the one piece holding me up.

I parted that one out, the barrel wasn’t exactly .750 and as a result the set screw FSB never sit right. I wasn’t happy with it, I wish someone made “kino” style 300Blk barrels.

Simple has its appeal. But for shorty barrel’s I need an effective flash hider.  And it may as well be a suppressor mount.  So that probably blows the clone fidelity, but I can live with that.
