A short update. My lower back is still sore and swollen from the surgery but doing well. They had to cut away some of the bone in a few places to relieve pressure on the nerves. It seems to have relieved much of the cramping I was having in my feet. I still have the numbness but it's not bad. It's not bad enough to cause any problems. I'm told it can take a long time for that to subside because the nerves are kind of bruised or something and take a long time to heal from that, and may or may not heal completely depending on how severe and how long they were being compressed.
I had the staples removed a few days ago. Here are a couple of pictures if you're interested. The first one shows the staples in place after the surgery. Looks like a zipper up my back. The red thing above it is the drainage tube coming out and going up my back, that had to be in place for a week before it stopped draining enough to be removed. The second picture is how it looks now. Should leave a pretty awesome scar! CAUTION: Kinda sorta graphic Click To View Spoiler The glue residue around it is from the bandage that had to be on there for almost a week. It's taking a while to get that stuff off. As far as my ulcerative colitis, that's still getting worse. Much more so in the last couple of weeks. The symptoms are dragging on longer in the day, making things more difficult. But I have a really good doctor and we're working on it. |

Epic tramp stamp man!
That cramping pain going away has to feel good. Everything else will improve with time and physical therapy. Its a long road to recovery, but you are well in your way. |

Great news Smashy. You are getting it done and I am glad to hear that you are healing and seeing some improvement.
Sorry about the UC. Hopefully they can get you sorted out on that soon as well. Food allergies? Bread??? We are still out here pulling for you. Merry Christmas. |

Back situation is getting better, that's progress. Now for the colon issues. I'm glad to hear you have a good doctor on the case. Persevere! I look forward to the update where you say that things are getting better there, too.
Merry Christmas, if I don't check in in the next couple days. |

I am glad to hear good things from you...
If you haven't looked it into it already, you might want to consider a fecal transplant for the ulcerative colitis. It helps some people. https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2720727 |

Checking back in, random nobody, so if you don't have the energy to reply or whatnot, no offense taken. I'm glad to see things have been and are getting better. I know how good it feels to go up on the mobility aides, or is it going down because you're using less of one? Ether way it sucks you now know that feeling first hand now. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
Along with that, having to stand for minute to see if you can trust your body, to actually not betray you. Plus how much that fall can just gut your esteem, like ninja just got you with a sword in the guts. I Hope any plateaus in that recovery you hit are short before getting to that next level of gaining upward and onward advancement . On what seems like a never ending up hill to reach that ""normal again"" overlook, with a proverbial bench you can finally rest on and enjoy the view for a few moments finally. One so many take for granted. Healing and the recovery rehab is hell of lot hard work, keeping up with medications exhausting in and of itself. Ditto on that hope the nerves still healing properly, because when they heal coming back that can hurt worse as they come back online with a brand new sensitivity to everything and have re-calibrate their stupid selves. Glad you're in a better space and shape. Any surgery or even a major doctor visit for results/opinion/options, is life holding event , you can rationally understand there is life after that but everything after that, is just beyond this all consuming wall in front of you that tries to trap you mentally and emotionally on that side, until that event occurs. I know it personally, the way to defeat it, I'm still working on myself, if you figure one out let the rest of us know. Just knowing what it is and recognizing it gives back some control over it, no one ever tells you about this shit, or we missed it, because until you live it is just not fathomable I guess. The doctors making any progress on putting that ulcerative colitis up on the ropes some? |

Look OP,
I kid you not, I was having a convo with my buddy the other day about life and stuff. Cuz I got a lot of shit going on. I sure do.... In sum, life fucking sucks. All of us have our demons here - which may not be the same demons. But please, find a way to fight though. If you believe in religion, some religions say this world is a "test" to see how we can earn Paradise...in other words, how do you expect God to reward you when you haven't earned it? So, no matter how hard things get, I pray you find some light to look forward to or just the satisfaction of not letting shit hold you down and opt to kick shit in its face. |

Sorry for taking a while to respond. Forgetfulness happens. I doing okay. The back surgery made a huge difference on the problems I was having with my feet. I'd say the numbness and cramping has been reduced by 90%. It's a huge improvement. I'm still working on the colitis situation. Some new meds I'm taking have been helping. Thanks for all the encouragement, I appreciate it. |

Smashy, I've been feeling pretty down about my own problems lately. I have my health, but I sure have other problems in my life.
I'm just checking in to ask for an update, hopefully by now you've got somewhere on the UC issues with specialists? I hope you're keeping on, plugging away, one step at a time. Wishing you well, hoping you're getting better. |

But I have a new doctor and I'm on different meds that are doing a better job of controlling my symptoms. I am still plugging away at it, not giving up. I hope you get your own problems dealt with. |

Not much, I’m still two sizes smaller. But I’m better than I was. Finding a doctor who cares enough to really attack this and try other options has made a huge difference. Surgery is still a possibility but new meds are helping to control things and allow me to start recovering. I have a long way to go but I’ve turned that corner and I’m headed the right direction. Thank you, I appreciate the concern. |

I guess I should also mention I just moved into a new house a few days ago. Still renting but I found a nicer house for about the same price as I was paying before. 300 sq. ft. bigger too. The old place had it’s issues. My new house is much nicer and cleaner, a far better place to live. Good size back yard too (other house didn’t have one) so I’m thinking about getting a new dog. Banjo died a year ago, so it’s not been the same without dog hair getting on everything. lol Anyway, it’s a more pleasant place to live so I’m feeling better about that as well.
