Update 4/16 The days are ticking down! These short weeks....ugg. We also have testing tomorrow.
 Here are the pictures from Friday's work. The castle getting it's first coats of texture. We have a ways to go, and need to even out some spots, as well as the top half of the castle we didn't get to yet.  The gun was super easy to use and clean up. Squeeze the bag to get the amount desired. It goes pretty fast. This was work for only about 25min.  Ghost bow is getting more and more bubbles, as well as the neck area blended with the contours.  When they get the rest of the lights covered, they will then go back and add smaller beads to be similar to the full longship.  Working on the "wedge" and surrounding area of the mast structure.  The horn blower's tower. It will go on the upper village tier, facing Paris.  Tower fighter, awaiting paint. Villagers in the background. We didn't get any up Friday.  One of our fleet ships was hung up. Looks pretty cool in the light.  Shields continue for the long ship and it's crew.  Our dragon rider's pants getting stuffed. We had his legs fall off, since we broke his pelvis for his ride. Students worked to glue his pants to his shirt, so we don't lose them again.   Duck Stamp prizes for the winners are going out today.   |

That's a good deal and maybe better than just money Art materials are crazy expensive, especially when you go to oil paints and the higher end colored pencils. $3+ for a colored pencil and you go through an entire pencil on a drawing sometimes (Any attempt on black paper). The cheaper pencils just don't compare to like Prismacolor or Caran d'Asche, though Faber Castell is a usable affordable one. The Amazon Basics colored pencil set actually isn't horrible, either, like a Prismacolor feel but doesn't lay down as thick, but thicker than cheaper options. |

Update 4/17
We cut holes for the oars yesterday.   Once cut, we painted back over.  Texture continues on the castle. Today he's touching up missed areas. We should be ready for paint soon. We mixed some left over colors together to get pretty close to what I was going to order. We also thinned it for the spray gun.  Valkyries continue to be painted.  Tower fighter getting more details.  I found volunteers to help with the Paris mural that has been left to languish.    Bubbles and beads continue.  What could this be?   |

Guns.. Had the textured painting been noted beforehand, I'd have suggested that ensue before applying all of those hand laid tiles.
I think those tiles had great color and texture. Now, you are kind of back at square one, IMO. Any feedback from the students on that? Personally, I'd be a bit pissed. |

I was thinking the exact same thing back when I asked about masking off all the windows. I guess he thought I meant the interior while I was referring to the borders to be shielded with a student moving cardboard around the edges to keep the stone block look. We'll see how it turns out, maybe he doesn't want to make it match the tower of the pillar for some reason? |

It was definitely a consideration when we began adding the tiles to the castle. We discussed it. The tiles are meant to give a more coarse texture detail to the castle, rather than just the stone look and feel. We are after the shape, thickness, and size. In the end this castle won't be the same color or even value(light/dark) as the large tower. The natural stone color/value would look odd with the darker color we began yesterday. I'll also add that my vision for the castle was to evoke a similarity to the opening credit scenes in the series Game Of Thrones; more as a model look, rather than full on as realistic as possible. Are we going beyond that? Yeah, it's morphed a bit. Some of our details are pretty detailed, but the overall look of the outer structure is going to be close, and people already have commented on it, passing in the halls, "Game of Thrones?" So I think we are heading in the right direction. We began painting with our mixed color, but the first coats were a little dark, so we added more light cream to get it a bit closer to the Sherwin-Williams color I was hoping for. The test area, late yesterday, looked much better. |

Update 4/18
The year long endeavor to cover our tower in tiles is just about done.  They were working so hard, two of them were cutting the same area on two different tiles and didn't know it. We should be down to detail tiles by the end of the day today.   Portraits coming along. I keep saying we are going to get some up on the wall soon. That actually might come true at some point.  The wing should go back up on our dragon today if I can find time and grab a student to help me get it up there in the lift.  Some details work still remains, but base coats are getting closer to done around the display.  The dragon's heart getting a little organic texture in some places, and evening out others.  Students are getting more comfortable with how to get the whole system sculpted out. We've got a few things that need adjusted, but they are making good progress. We might see paint on this tomorrow.  As I talked about earlier this morning, this "Dovetail' color is what we had in mind to try to match. For pouring blue into a dark orange and adding a little cream, we did pretty good. We added water and thinned it out, so it's all set for spraying, and we didn't have to buy any more paint.  Our first shot at it looked pretty good going on, but as it dried, it was just too dark.   The lower wall, and some of the tower bases have the lighter coat on. The upper sections still have the darker tone.  |

Tomorrow is a big day for Sophia. It's the judging for the national Junior Duck Stamp contest.
She found out that when she was a freshman and won for WY, she placed 5th overall, nation wide. Neither of us were told that. She found out by looking up results from that year. Hopefully the gal.grom SD that has won it 3 times since she was 6 years old, doesn't win again. |

Update 4/19
Last few days have been pretty productive on many fronts for us. We are starting to see somethings come together. I've got all of our shirts here in 7 boxes. I already got paid by our Principal for his T-shirt, so he was the first to receive one. His was also on top of one of the first boxes opened. Custom Ink seems to have done a great job with the printing, and design. Looks better than the proofs! The village had another ship arrive in port....  I was harassing her about having this done by now (she just started it this week) but it's looking great. Can't wait to see it stood up on the beach. The villagers are out to greet the incoming ship.       The tower saw it's last panel applied yesterday. We of course did it twice, as the first one slipped and fell.   Caulking began on the tower edges.  With more painters helping, the Paris mural is making good progress.  We only have a couple small areas left to finish with base coat paint. My detailers will begin adding crows to the composition soon.  Our dragon rider's hands and feet getting a patina of time.   Spear points for our crew members. I still need to grab some dowels for them.  The dragon's heart claimed three victims yesterday, as the foam was wet. Much swearing over new sweatshirts getting foam on them. We used acetone and soap and water and got it off.  Stained glass is almost done now for our castle.  I'm hoping we have paint done today so we can install a few of them.  Paint is much closer to done than in this picture.  |

I ordered the xxl hoodie this year as the XL last year was a bit tight. Now the XXL is a bit more than a bit loose. The good part is I'll be able to wear my heavy shirt under it without any problem. Of course it could be me loosing about 20 pounds. EBR |

More of the shields are finishing up and will be ready for install, once we hang ship.  Our castle with the color finished. Students have discussed adding accents to things like the roofs. We will talk about it.   With some of the stained glass installed.    More glass being measured and fitted.  Students were excited Friday to get their shirts, and many put them on immediately. Fun to see them in the hallways already. One of my students on her way to another class. More shirts are going out today, as the kids bring in their money. We had two missing at the Admin building, and I made a run other there to deliver extras, but they have now been found, so those are on their way back.   |
