looking for a inexpensive electronic cad program to lay out schematics here in the shop where I work.

Any recomendations?

items will need to be able to incorporate:

IC's
Caps
resistors
relays
fuses
connectors

I use AutoCAD, but it is not inexpensive.

But there are 400 gazillion pirated copies of it. It ranks right up there with MS office for pirating, I guess.

I think with some brands of blank CDs, when you buy a whole spindle, they throw in an extra w/ a bootlegged copy of Autocad2000 just for kicks.

I use Cadstar where I work - but it's a $20K program, not what your looking for.

Here is a free one - I've never used it but hey, it's free.....

EagleCAD 4.1
Ivex

Both are cheap to own legally.  Ivex is easier to use, Eagle has some more features.  That said, we use AutoCAD to lay our boards out here, since it doesn't require a schematic to generate boards.

AutoCAD.

I use it for everything, including making my own targets.

AutoCAD

it's the only way to draft.

still exploring options (keep em' coming) , thanks for the ones already mentioned.

of the ones I could download so far, tinycad is pretty user friendly (~)

it would be nice to have a pretty comprehensive library of sybols to choose from and
exportable / save to .dwg

I am using AutoCAD 2004.  I have been using AutoCAD since the R12 on DOS days.  I have seen CAD lite packages and they in no way add up t AutoCAD.

Seeing the Red 5 and Red 2 Avatars, makes me wish I had a nice Porkins avatar under my name!  What was he, Red 10?

Autodesk sells an AutoCAD Electrical package.  I have $5K listed for the retail, but I gaurantee that  you can get a local dealer to go lower.  I would check it out on their website.  It says you can import from excel to create BOM and schematics automatically.
