At work where I use cable it don't get much better but at home it's another story. Dial up and man it's slow. I'm not saying I'm tight but I don't want to get locked down to another $40/$50 dollars a month for internet service. With the kids in school needing more internet time I've gotta do something different. Got an ad today for Earthlink (TimeWarner) high speed, 70 times faster than dial up,  "cable" connection for a good price (approx $20 per month.....don't know if it's unlimted). Anybody use this or suggestions?

you could check broadbandreports.com and see if anyone has any experience with them.  I used to have earthlink/mindspring with Covad/DSL.  They were ok though once a month it seemed like I would lose my connection for half a day or so.

I don't know what the standard cost for broadband in your area is. But in Texas, time warner (cable internet) is $45.00 a month.

I suspect the $20.00 a month is a introductory offer. Probably for the first 3 months.

I have had Earthlink through my cable for about  a year and a half.
No problems - No complaints.
I pay $42 monthly - unlimited access.

The $20 price is an intro offer for new signups.

Try Verizon DSL if you can get it in your area. I think you can get it now for $29.95 a month, which is the same as the Verizon employee rate. It's fast, it doesn't tie up your phone line while your online, and it comes with a lot of good features.

Here in the PRK(L.A.-area) the standard cable service is $40/month, and the download speed is capped at 3000kbs down, but I've gotten as high as 3,600 during non peak hours.

Why would anyone pay for DSL/cable internet service through a second tier provider?

Get it direct from your cable / phone company.

Earthlink is complete shit, their "service" offers nothing except an email account with their name in it.

Dang, Warlord.  I am paying $25.00/month for my cable connection.  I am in the Inland Empire (Man, Inland Empire sounds so impressive when I say it)

Not to mention that their call center is located in India.

I work with a bunch of people that got laid off from Earthlink when the call center was moved overseas.
