Just had an interesting conversation with my GF...we've been housesitting and taking care of her parents dog for the past week. Weve been sleeping downstairs, which has a patio/sliding door. Typical split level home with garage/rec room downstairs and everything else on the 2nd level.

We leave the room dark other than the monitor and TV, both of which light up the room enough to sillouette us to the sliding glass door.

I left the patio light on, and she told me to turn it off. She said her parents said it was "more secure" because the "BG"s couldnt see in. She doesnt live in the nicest of neighborhoods.

Of course, I left the light on. For one, what kind of idiot walks up to a lit area and peers through a window/door? Secondly, if I hear something outside, the first thing im looking to is the access points to this room, notably the patio. I dont want to have to cover 15 feet of ground with some guy at the door armed, who I cant see, just to switch on a light. Thirdly, he cant see into this room with nearly the same capability with a bright ass porch light in his face (see: ruined human nightvision). I came to the realization that my own parents also dont leave a porch or patio light on, the house is completely blacked out....they dont want to "waste" energy.

Just wondering if others here have experienced this kind of ignorance from sheeple...and regardless of if there is a light on or not, the HK sits within 5" of my left hand :)

Indoor lights off at night, outdoor lights on.  Doors locked. Dogs inside.  Bedroom door locked. Cellphone and HD firearm(s) in bedroom with us.

it is always a good thing to have lights on around the outer perimeter of a house or building. That gives turds less places to hide. Oh and that also makes them a great silhouette when breaking in your home. Bad guys and roaches have one thing in common, THEY LIKE THE DARK!

Try this: Turn off interior lights and turn on extorier lights then go outside and try to see in. Then try this again vice versa.... When your girls parents get home show them this.

Lights should be on IMHO.  Criminals don't like to be seen approaching their prey.  Much like predators don't like the sheep to see them coming.
