I've got a GE that was working fine when I unplugged it 3 years ago. Should I take any precautions if I decide to plug it in again. Will it work after being unused for so long? Plug it in and hope for the best?
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I'd just plug it in.  I guess if you are worried about it, you could e-mail (or call) GE customer service.

You should be fine, as long as the refrig wasnt lying down while it was off... Heck Ive had one that was unplugged for over 5 years, plugged it in and away it went... that was like 10 years ago and STILL running today. Just watch it for the first week CAREFULLY... Meaning dont go to Costco and stock up on Lobster tails. If in a week from now its still working... you are good to go.

One thing you might want to do is clean the insides really well.  Mold sometimes forms in empty reefers when they have been shut down for a while, and you don't want to get any of that stuff on your food.

I tend to agree with the above.  Seems like good info.

If you want to, though, GE Answer Center is 800-626-2000. They used to be very helpful, but might be worth a shot now.

We have a fridge that gets used for only two weeks in December (annual christmas party). Before I start it, I always clean the coils and drip pan. I also clean the inside and put some boxes of Arm'n Hammer Baking Soda to get rid of the stale smell.

Just make sure it's getting enough air to cool the coils properly if it's in a tight spot.
