| After reading the how to order a cmp rifle thread I am going to join the Garand Collector's Association and buy a Greek Garand. However I have a question about these rifles as I am a newb to Garands. Are these WWII production? Did H&R even make Garands in WWII? Any help would be appreciated. |

H&R Garands are post WWII. The only makers of Garands during WWII were SA and Winchester. Post war they were made by SA, H&R and International Harvester. I think your going to love your new gun no matter what maker. They are great rifles. And a lot of fun. But be careful, it is hard to get just one. Oh yeah, the above info is just for USGI Garands. They were also made outside the US. |
| if you get a greek rack grade SA, you will get a rifle that was made at the Springfield Armory in Springfield, Mass, between 1939 or so and 1955... if you request a low #, ie under 3 million, you may end up with a WW2 rifle. Either way you'll be fine, since the postwar rifles are really nice, especially the 5.8-6.0 million series. BTW, all the rifles from the CMP are US made, although they may have italian and danish parts that were made to USGI spec and are every bit as good and in some cases better than the originals. |
I just recieved my CMP S/A Garand, it has no rust at all. The stocks are pretty beat up, but I don't care, it's part of the history. My garand it post WWII. I didn't know this until my rifle was already shipped, but apparently you can request a WWII era Garand .
