A suspect in a burglary was killed Monday in San Francisco after he fled into a Caltrain tunnel and was struck by a train, according to police. The death was reported at about 12:15 p.m. on Caltrain's Tunnel 3, just north of the Paul Avenue station. San Francisco police Sgt. Neville Gittens said that minutes earlier a burglary was reported at a home on nearby Bridgeview Drive and descriptions of the two suspects were broadcast to officers in the area. "A couple of our units saw the suspects at Phelps and Oakdale,'' Gittens said. "One they were able to take into custody. The second one took off, apparently goes down the hill and into the tunnel.'' Caltrain officials said Monday's death was the fifth this year for the transit agency. Gittens said officers had no idea where the second suspect, who was not identified, had gone until railroad police reported the accident. Train service was delayed for several hours as officers investigated the scene. Gittens said the suspect arrested by police was a juvenile. Hmmm run in train tunnel to escape cops who werent close behind you and you rob somebody in broad daylight. What an idiot. |
