What is the mileage/gal????

Is the Excursion overkill?  Does an Expedition do the same thing?  Built as well?

Since I rented an Excursion for the long haul from Reno, NV to Orange County, CA I have been contemplating trading in the WRX and the F150 and getting one.  I like the idea of the diesel, not sure why -- never had one.  Maybe it's the TURBO that's on it......can it be "turned up" to increase HP and TQ?

What else to know?  The old 7.3L Diesel was getting the car rags 15.7mpg most times, but for some reason I can't find the ratings for the new 6L.....

Just toying with this idea at the moment, not sure I want to part with my car.  The truck is easy....

Once you go diesel, it's hard to go back.

i don't think you can get an expedition with a diesel in it...........

if i were you, unless you have specific need for the back hatch, i'd just buy a crew cab pickup as opposed to the excursion, much more useful IMHO

and to top it off i'd get a chevy instead of either

those 100+ HP power programmers that are out for the diesels make it even moreso inviting

HOWEVER, i have an emotional attatchment to big blocks, gonna be hard for me personally to swing to diesel

to be more specific, with about a $400 computer programmer, $200 cold air intake system and about $150 in exhaust modifications you can easily gain 100+ HP and 100+ torque on your modern diesels from ford, chevy, and dodge

My 6.0 F-250 with <5k miles is already getting 19mpg on the highway 16 in town.  Geezzzzzzz, it has 580 torque out of the box, you need more?  Who cares about the diesel noise, I don't hear it inside but the turbo sounds cool spinning up.

Ford is killing the Excursion..... not enough of a market for it. It's just too big.

If an Expedition or Suburban isn't big enough for you, then you need a Dualie pickup with a trailer.

Modern diesels are so much quieter than the older ones.

You can barely hear the Duramax and Ford 6.0, compared to my 12 valve Cummins.

If I had the money, I'd find no better product than a 2004 GMC 4wd with the Duramax/Allsion combo. Rode in one last week and it was pure pleasure.

A good friend of mine at work has an '03 2500 4x4 GMC Duramax with the Edge programmer

It has 3 or 4 different settings, on the most powerful setting that thing hauls ass for a big truck

I've been kicking around trading in my '03 Z71 half-ton &  '02 Acura for a diesel crew cab truck

These new powertrains are impressive & each truck has it's strengths/weaknesses.

Is '04 the last year for the Excursion or has Ford postponed it's demise ??

I'm sure there's some Ford truck forums out there,
forums.pickuptruck.com/ubbthreads.php
is an OK generic truck site with some diesel info.

My State ride a 2003 F-350 4x4 with 6.0 and automatic gets 14.0 mpg no matter what kind of driving.

I just completed Ford training on the 6.0L a few weeks back and the Ford factory trainer did not recommend upping the horsepower over 40 more horses, said engine life would be shortened dramatically.

International did a good job designing the 6.0, and the design of the turbo all but eliminates turbo lag found in other diesel engines.

This is the same shit that's heard every freaking year about this vehicle, obviously it's not come true yet.

I just got a 2004 with a 6.0 and I love it. I had heard the same crap about 04's being the end of the excursion and it 'induced' me to get one now.  After I got it I found 'fords' 2005 year ordering book online. I dunno if I would have still waited knowing for sure that 2005's were coming, but nearly every dealer you walk into hands you the same crap, "better get one now as they ain't making them next year".

Anyway, with just under 2k miles I'm getting about 15.5 around town and 19 on the highway. It's huge, loud and I love it.. :)

... I love my diesel too, nothing at all to be ashamed of. A truck is supposed to sound and smell like a truck.

... Plus, I found this kit kick-assed kit Banks Power - Six-Gun Bundle that can increase the already ballsy motor a whopping 104.8 horsepower +. Torque best gain 257.7 lb/ft.

... Dayum, can't wait untill she breaks in to install!

I really like the Excursion and the diesel is frosting on the cake.  I'll probably be able to afford a 2004 Diesel Excursion in about 10 years!

I drove one few months ago for over 1,200 miles to tow a 7,000 pound boat.  Got just over 12 mpg for the trip.  It is huge but handled the load very well.  Makes my Expedition feel small.  Would love to get one but seems a little too impractical for my life.

I have a 2004 F-350 crew cab 4X4 with the 6.0L Powerstroke diesel.  I get 16.5 mpg from my house to work and back - about a 14 mile round trip every day.

I will never own another gas engine truck.

Sister-in-law has a 2003 diesel Excursion. Ford put the diesel in the 2004 model and I'm sure they will put the diesel in the 2005.

Last month I just purchased a 2004 F250 crew-cab short box with the diesel. Nice engine when left stock, not planning on 'chipping' mine but each to their own. This engine is sweeeeeet and deserves to be placed in a truck. just my .02.

Why spend all that money on an excursion?

Take that money from selling the WrX and F150 and get an 87 ford ranger and the rest use to stock up in peanuts.

The Expedition is on a half ton frame and the Excursion is on a super duty 3/4 ton or 1 ton frame, I'm not sure. The Expedition has no diesel available. Look for a used Expedition, the resale value is very poor on those right now due to fuel prices.
