I ran my first race today and learned I sucked at autocross, but I had the best adrenaline rush running the course. For those of you who don't know, Autocross is where they set up courses with cones and cars race against the clock. I almost decided to sell all my guns (except maybe for one) to buy a tuned car. It was freakin extreme driving. I was lucky to go with a friend who is really good and he gave me lots of pointers that made me suck less. Wow! Is anyone else into this? |

You can do it with any car. Lots of people show up with their daily driver. Pick up an old Miata before you get a tuned car. You can get an OK mid-90's driver for a few thousand and learn on a RWD car with good balance. They probably have teaching sessions for new drivers. Pick up "Secrets of Solo Racing" from Amazon as well. |
What happens in four years? You gonna wait till the kid appreciates in value, and sell it to get a race car??? ![]() |

Oh man, this is our 4th. In for or 5 years the first one leaves the nest. but the main reason is the first couple of years my wife freaks out any time I do anything remotly dangerous. I haven't ridden my motorcycle much this year because it isn't worth getting her stirred up. Don't get me wrong, selling my Mini is worth having 4 boys to hunt and shoot with instead of three. I figure we have them spaced out enough that I will have at least one of my boys to hunt with until I am in my 60's, when they will all have wives and kids and stuff. I had been looking at a new pully for the blower to put my up right about 190 hp. Now I have ultra-sounds to pay for. |
Thanks for the Miata tip. I saw a few of them on the course and they were fast and agile. Also, the Porsche Boxter S was impressive, but probably cost 10X what the miatas cost. What really amazed me was how inferior the muscle cars were on this course. Too much mass and too much power to make the tight turns fast and not lose traction. Secrets of Solo Driving: I'm buring it now. |

Sweet! Autocross sure looks fun. Have you ever played the new game Toca Race driver 2? Its very realistic if you have the steering wheel and gives you alot of learning time without busting the bank, give it a look. Its a great sim www.codemasters.co.uk/tocaracedriver2/ |
