Someone posted the other day, a thread about a returning vet who got slammed, publically, for being a vet. In the news story was the email address of the family of the soldier, Jason Gilson.
I can't find the thread...but I emailed them, and him, thanking him for his service.
I got a reply back from them today.
Dear Greg, We want to thank you for taking the time to write our son. Words can not express our thankfulness for each and every email that was sent, as it has warmed our heart and soul to hear such words of support for our son. It has helped our 3 younger children to understand that despite what they experienced marching in the parade, this is not the norm or acceptable. It has also has raised our oldest sons spirits greatly. We have printed each one of your emails and am in the process of making them into a book for our oldest son Jason, so that when ever he feels a bit down he can read them over again. We know that even though what we experienced on Bainbridge Island was painful and difficult to see, it is critical that the word get out and lessons be learned from this. Simply the lesson to be learned is that it is wrong to tolerate or accept this type of behavior but rather we need to expose it for the corruption that it is. After this experience my family and I are ever and more determined to stand up for what is right. For who will ? if we won?t? Please, as you have already demonstrated that you are doing, continue to stand up and be counted. God Bless America. Tamar Gilson & family Bremerton, WA
Below is a letter from our son __________________________________________________ Dear America, My name is Jason. Over the past few days I have been apprehensive about writing this letter as I have been trying to find the right words to express my gratitude for the enormous amount of supportive e-mails and phone calls I have received thanking me for my service and expressing your dismay at the ignorance of many individuals who booed at yelled at me and my fellow Americans who showed support for President Bush on Bainbridge Island. I am not sure about how each of you heard about our experience, but I do know that the response has been wonderful, a bit overwhelming, however very welcome. Thank you so much. Jason Gilson P.S. Remember to VOTE!
