I have my gunroom on the third floor of my house in a room that also holds the air exchanger. It does get a little humid in there so I put a room dehumidifier in there. I am getting about 4 pints a day in just that room. So far none of my weapons show rust so I assume it works. Is there such thing as it being too dry? Some of my guns do have wooden stocks. Facts or opinions welcome.

Dehumidifier is a refrigeration system. Simple. Refrigerator removes heat and when you remove heat, you remove moisture. Only thing is that a Dehumidifier has the condenser and evaporator cancelling each other out by putting them in close proximity.

Not that it answers your question but a neat little tidbit of information.

What will happen if you put a humidifier and dehumidifier in a room together?

You have to empty your dehumidifier a lot.

Not to change the subject....but my Dehumidifyer died...and the only types I can find are the crappy plastic ones. The one I had (15 years old or so) was a metal GE model. Any tips where I can find a solid machine that doesn't coat a testicle?

Man I just love this place! You can learn something goofy everyday!

By the way, I think Emerson still makes the metal one which I always thought odd since it's sucking in water and would rust (it hasn't). My Emerson is about 20 years old and still running strong. I had to tear the motor down and lube it a few years ago but that's it. I piped it directly to the main drain so I don't have to dump each day.

Apparently there is.

Supposedly going from a dry climate to a wet one (or vice versa) can actually cause wood to swell or shrink to the point of changing your zero.  (I’d expect the type of finish the wood has to have a large bearing on this.)

I remember maybe twenty-five years ago the Smithsonian here in DC received a large antique gun collection from a guy who lived in Arizona.  The Smithsonian spent probably a year or two slowly changing the humidity these firearms were exposed to so to prevent warpage (after which they apparently just put them in storage!).

Just put a humidity gauge in the room and adjust the humidifier to keep the room reasonably dry by the standards of where you live.

Humidity: you need a humidistat to measure the humidity there.  I think 40-60 percent are okay for guns, and you don't want it too much below 50 for the wood stocks.

Humidifiers: they all seem to be metal these days.  I got a Whirlpool about 5 years ago.  It was fine at first but had to be repaired then repaired again, and it's an energy hog.  I got a sort of expensive Maytag last winter.  It has a digital humidistat, is Energy Star and seems to use a lot less power.  Not a perfect unit but better.
