This is the first time I have ever made a post such as this. Some of you may recall my thread on my younger brother who is retiring due to health reasons. It just got worse this week as he has been diagnosed with an advanced case of cirrosis of the liver. It was touch and go this week and he almost died. Like most of us, he refused to go to the hospital until he was knocking on deaths door. After 30 years of working hard and drinking hard, he is now paying the piper. For those of you living the life I beg you to reconsider for my brother is only 48. If one thing can be said about my brother he has always been the easiest going person alive with a giving nature that goes beyond the norm to almost a fault. He literaly would give the shirt off his back. I ask for your prayers and am at a loss of words at the saddness I feel. Tj Update Intensive care, this AM massive hemmoraging! I'm on my way back to KY after getting home last night. |

Hey, Tom - Greywolf here. I'll add my prayers as well, my friend. Is there a specific "limit" on alcohol that Doctors say is too much and might cause these sorts of problems? I mean, if a person has one drink every evening, is that borderline, or is it only when people have a lot more on average that these problems can crop up? |
My brother was never a hardcore fifth of wiskey a day kind of alcoholic and did not party down more than like once a week. He consumed about a six pack a day but every day. We're talking classic construction worker showed up for work everyday for 30 plus years. His condition may have been excellerated due to back and knee problems and the taking of pain meds which are just as bad as alcohol and in combination worse. Pain meds and alcohol even Ibuprohen is a deadly mix. I actually knew a girl who had complete liver failure after trying to do herself in with two bottles of wine and a bottle of motrum. She almost succeeded. Tj |
