My house is grey inside, but that's because i have 18' ceilings and tons of windows. Darker colors are useful for contrast in big bright rooms. Then again, I also have really nice cofferred ceilings and trim work too, so it all works well together.

I'd much rather have whatever OP is talking about than DON'T FUCKING TOUCH THAT COUCH Victorian perfection.

There are some dumbass trends I don't care for, like sliding/rolling barn doors and wainscotting or whateverthehell wood trim junk people have been doing in their overdecorated cottagecore HGTV-barf crapholes.

Simple principle - avoid fake anything - wood, distressed, fur, art, etc. Avoid trends. Most of us who think we do still get caught up in them. Every trend usually has some elements worth adapting, but don't get carried away on the latest "themes" marketed on TV.

This, forget the trends. "Real" stuff will never go out of style - farmhouse furniture was rugged and was used hard. Real wooden furniture everywhere and a fur I tanned myself in the room in front of me as I type this. The more I've personally invested in it, the more valuable it is to me - blood, sweat, tears, time, not money. There is a lot of stuff here I made by hand. People who would say it is imperfect would pay a mint for a new but distressed look version at a store. I wouldn't.

I know a man whose entire home was built with his own two hands with wood he milled himself. Did all the utilities too. It is beautiful inside, looks like a shack from the outside, and cost him very little monetarily. Helluva place and i don't think he'd trade it for a mansion.

Swap that dishwasher out for an $80 stainless model and you’ll have 3 offers in 24hr.

That’ll be $114.74 for the real estate advice. I have white appliances.

No painting real wood trim.     There's no going back.

Kitchen needs backsplash and granite.  Lose the awful window treatments.  Front door is pimp.  Unpainted wood trim is king.

I don’t care about the decor too much, but I do care about the quality of installation and quality of the components and fixtures.

The one thing I absolutely despise plain old square thick base boards they are the ugliest thing in these modern farm houses. It’s like 500+ linear feet of dust collection, not to even bringing up how shitty the install and paintwork on it is. That and all the dumb ass barn doors.

I don't mind gray or white walls but I LOATHE that grayish wood laminate flooring that every. damn. remodel. has in them.

I like real wood floors that look like wood, not like sanded dirty barn planks.  The floors in the pics of the house that the poster said isn't selling are gorgeous and I'd want those over anything else.

Our dump is currently "decorated" in the 20th century Fleamarket Bookworm Neohoarder style.  2 years of WFH has made it worse, not better LOL.

New countertop and backsplash with under mount sink, new stainless dishwasher. I don’t have a good visual but replacing and expanding the kitchen bar top to make it wider for bar stool seating would be nice.

My wife furniture flips. We sold several farmhouse/distressed pieces and she tried something different a purple to gray fade that looked really good. It wouldn't sell. We sanded it back down and did shit farmhouse distressed and sold within 2 weeks.
Did an elegant black, wouldn't sell. We've decided to just do farmhouse and crank pieces out. /shrug

The altars and super large items are big money, but 9 foot and shorter (more manageable) items aren't so bad because you aren't competing with actual churches and fewer mansions.

One of best players in the furniture import game was thegatz.com and they are retiring this year.

Auctions are still solid, and freight shipping isn't as scary as ya think.

Very cool stuff is available for under $2k.  When I wander furniture stores, I wonder why someone would pay $4k for particle board.

I'm almost done with the first floor, furniture wise.  I'm just waiting for the right mid to late 1800s gothic chest to use as a coffee table.

I'd kill for stained, hardwood trim.  But, that would involve replacing all the prehung door units as well as baseboards.  I think it's a $30k problem that isn't getting solved.

The fact is this area of the country doesn't have the kind of house I want, so I have to tart up this place with old shit... but no farmhouse.

Keep an eye on liveauctioneers.com for local auctions.  You'll be shocked at what comes up and how little you need to spend.

Betcha this goes for under $4k.

Dont be afraid of shipping on medium sized items.  I get quotes from uship.com and get furniture and art in for about $400-800.  The monster stuff I'd have quoted before bidding so I know what I'm getting into.  I just got hit for 1000 Euros for a 7x1x1 crate from Austria.

Gothic is my thing, but there's a ton of intricate, neo-Renaissance stuff out there.

I agree OP and I'm not a crusty old boomer.

The "urban farmhouse" trend....

Gray and dull throughout just like the people who live in them.

Hospital white kitchens that are only that clean because no one knows how to cook.

Contractor grade everything that has to be replaced every few years.

Built in reading nook so that little Brayson can read his CRT books for school.

Large living room for entertaining other soulless retards.

"Distressed" floors because you are a pussy who lives in the burbs.

Overly large master bedroom that will be even more empty after the divorce.

What else did I miss?

Forgot that one.  Thanks.

Those big master bathrooms are dumb as fuck.

You have three options for dropping a grumpy:

1. Cold morning, tile floor, legs up in the air, wrapped in a blanket, don't pull a back muscle dump.
2. Take a dangerous journey from the shower to the toilet all sudsed up.  It's like the Ice Capades but much more dangerous and the stakes are higher.
3. Wafflestomp a hot deuce down the shower drain b/c the wife is on the toilet scrolling twitter talking about the Johnny Depp trial.

I like my small bathroom.  I can pee from the shower in the toilet if need be like a civilized person.

The blue is IMO awful but I love the doors on your upper cabinets.

People are looking for granite anymore. Maybe a different color on the backsplash and new countertop. People don’t do formica anymore.
