Is it illegal to shoot a gun in your back yard for the 4th of july? Like in the ground This is what I wanted to know I didnt ask if it was safe because I know it isnt, I just asked if it was illegal, I know now it is not illegal for me since I live outside city limits but I will stil not do it. |
No matter where you are shooting into the ground can be dangerous. IF YOU HAVE TO SHOOT A GUN use a shotgun, open the shotgun shell up and dump the shot but watch the wad, it can still do damage if it hits someone, then shoot the blank shell up into the air.

Why in the hell would you consider shooting a gun into the ground or in the air "celebrating". That round has to go somewhere. As far as I know, in the USofA , discharging a firearm within any city limit is considered a felony. You want to loose your right to own a firearm for this????? If you can't understand this , then I agree with a previous writer..... You don't need to own Firearms!!!!! This is the reason the antigun people have reasons to take our guns from us..... DON'T BE STUPID WITH FIREARMS!!!!!!!

Are you fucking kidding me? Firing live rounds "like into the ground or something". That kind of shit makes gun owners sound REAL bad (and very un-safe). If you want to make some noise, however, either get some fireworks, or some effects cartridges. Lots of options out there, from Blanks in whatever caliber you choose, to specialized rounds like 12GA birdbombs and dragon-breath, to flares in all calibers and flavors. |

If you're in the country and it's legal for you to shoot (i.e. outside of city limits) then do it right and shoot into a backstop. Into the ground or air is not a good idea because you don't know where the bullet ends up. All you freaked out people better not come down to New Orleans over the 4th weekend. At night I sit outside (under an overhang) and count how many different calibers I can hear being fired off. Typical 4th night: pop, pop - hmm .25 tacka, tacka, tacka - ah, cheap 9mm budda, budda - ohhh, a .45 blam - a signle shot magnum or a cheapass powpowpowpowpow.... x30 - yeahh, a hicap AK or SKS. This lasts all night to early morning. And yes, I'm in a relatively good neighborhood.  Fritz |

If you are referring to earth with moved into a berm either by man or naturally being a good backstop, you are correct. If you are talking about shooting into the flat ground as the original poster was suggesting that would obviously be a bad idea. |
Now I reckon that has a tad to do with where you live and the type soil you have. Rock or summer packed sand not good but black rich soill you can drive your fist into is another story. Another common sense question answered with absolutes. Tj |
