Hi guys. Something's going on with my computer and I'm losing my mind over it. I'm ready to throw this thing out the window.
If I try to right click on something to delete it, the computer freezes up. I have an old program on my desktop that I'm trying to delete and whenever I right click on the icon to delete it, my cursor becomes the hour glass thingy and freezes. In fact if I right click on anything it freezes. The computer won't do a thing at this point, it won't even let me shut it down. I have to either turn off the power or unplug it.
I went so fas as to do a search for the program. When it comes up in the search, I highlight it and try edit, select all, file, delete. I get as far as file, then the damn thing freezes up. I have to restart at that point, and it's back to square one.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks guys.

Do all the regular things first.

WIndows Updates, virus scan update, run virus scan.

Download and update spybot and adaware and run them.

95% of the time this will fix weird things like this.

Deleting programs from the desktop usually does not work, you will only remove the shortcut. Try the add/remove programs in the control panel, look for the program there.

If that doesnt work try this:
Start>Run>then type in "msconfig"

Go the the Startup tab, see if the program is listed there. If it is, uncheck the box and restart and see how your machine behaves.

I think F8 is the key for startup in safe mode, run a virus check in safe mode.

If you get a specific error code type it in exactly in google.com, do some searching on google.com as well to see if anyone else has had problems with that program.

Good luck.

How about doing a right click and hitting the "delete" key, that will get rid of whatever.

There's been a few times when you install an application that modifies the right clcik menu, it can cause the right click menu to tweak out.

An example would be winzip or something.
It adds items to the right click menu, thus maybe causing an issue from time to time.

Think back when it worked, do you remember any applications that modified it?
If so try un-installing that app.
