I recently returned to College after a 28 year lay off. Back in 76 when I droped out I told my parents I would go back. Anyway I'm on my fourth course and 3rd instructor. Now I know why there are so many liberals. These schools are training grounds for liberals. Instructor #1 Woman about 35 years old. Probably a lesbian. Has a Masters Degree in Business. Doesn't have a full time job. I got the feeling the only thing she was good at was college so she never left. Instructor #2 Woman late 50's, divorced and holds a phd and has an annual salary of $27k. Liberal Democrat. The first statement she made was she was voting against the person running against Bush. She didn't even know Kerry's name. Did not know how to work her cell phone or a cassette player. Instructor #3 50 year old man. High power business type person. This guy might be a republican. He made some comments about not liking Clinton. However he seems to be big into diversity. He's white and keeps talking about the "Browning of Americia." Now don't get me wrong, I have friends of all races and I believe all people should be treated equal. However, I don't believe people should be given preference in jobs to fill a quota of minorities. |
www.tvcc.edu/faculty/ballen Be sure to check out the photo gallery. We ain't all bad, you know... TRG PS. In my photo gallery, you'll find suppressed ARs, hogs I've killed, etc. |
You are right and wrong at the same time. It is 'our time' in the classroom. And we can, within reason, use that as our bully pulpit. However, cream rises to the top and students soon realize which instructors are there for a paycheck, and which are there to meet the needs of their students. It is a shame that most faculty consider a lecture to be quality instruction. As it has been said before, no man can teach another anything. Learning must come from within. TRG |

a few quick google searches will show you the gross liberal bias on many of the nation's major college / uni campuses these days. The 'professional students' of the late 60s / early 70s have produced their poisoned fruit, controlling tenure selections and blocking conservative instructors. www.campus-watch.org/ is a good link for some of the madness (most of it related to arabist multi-culti claptrap) |

I've got a prof for one of my classes, goes on about how gettin' paid by the piece instead of by the hour keeps people down, that unions are the only way to go, etc.... Now, I've actually worked gettin' paid by the square foot in construction, and by the pound/ton pickin' fruit. I have found this method weeds out the slackers pretty damn quick. The people who are willing to bust ass make money. No work ,no pay. You set your own limits. What could be more fair than gettin' paid for only the work you actually DO? No sense in argueing with this prof, I don't think she has ever left academia, much less had to actually work for money. |
I'm truly not trying to be a smartass, but this wouldn't happen to be a community college would it? |
| I took an early retire (age 55) from being an Engineering VP for Lockheed martin last year. This year just to get out of the house I am teaching a couple of college courses. I donate my teaching salary to the NRA. I make sure I get in the jabs to the Liberals in my course. I mostly get positive comments. A couple of the other professors have made negative comments about my Bush and NRA bumper stickers on my Jeep. I have stood my ground and counter attacked them. |
Well, I don't know. If you have a PhD in Ancient Greek literature, what kind of real-world experience would be helpful? ![]() The reason I left academia was along the lines GunLvrPHD mentions. In my field of study (Constitutional Law and History) being a strict originalist straight white male was not the route to academic glory and tenure. |

Most...not all but most faculty members are Lefties and overwhelmingly so in the soft sciences and liberal arts. Most of my colleagues are engineers and scientists (EEs/physicists/chemists, etc.). We tend to be a somewhat conservative bunch...but then we're trained to think logically, expecially those of us [few] retired military officers. Most of the socialists (THAT is what they really are!) in academia are old hippies and yippies, with some of those folks now in their 70's actually being old Beats. Same thing really...just different generations. They have never held jobs in the for-profit, private sector. They have never served in the military and live rather risk free lives. They tend to do a lot of foreign travel, especially to Europe. They tend to "feel" rather than think logically. Most are registered Greens or very liberal Democrats. They tend to read a lot...but they restrict their sources so as not to "poison" their minds with reactionary doctrine. |
I wish I had profs like you when I was in school. Great website and pics! |
