As far as I know, this is about the same (legally) as shipping a water gun.  Is that true (in most states)?

In most states I believe that is true but I'm not a lawyer.  Look at your latest Cabella's catalog.  It will list the sates with restrictions.  MI is one for pistols.

There are some state laws that you may want to check into. New Jersey is a real Bitch when it comes to anything that even looks like a gun, BB, Pellet, Muzzleloader, ect. For the most part, most states don't have a problem with them but I'd still check just to be sure.

Thanks for the replies.

On edit:  I looked at Cabela's and they say "Residents of HI, MA, MI and NJ please check your local laws for restrictions before ordering any blackpowder firearm."  So I'm guessing the rest are safe.

As far as I know there is no federal law prohibiting the shipment of black powder guns.

I think FedEx x-rays thier packages ..... if they see a gun, they may give you trouble ....  They "quarantined" an AR15 upper one time for me .... took me two weeks to get it ...
