| Has anybody else noticed that PBS is now an infomercial channel? All I ever see is various kinds of idiots hawking programs or lifestyles or God-knows-what that just happens to be tied in to a series of books, tapes, diaries, and refrigerator magnets. I'm thinking of Suze Ormond (off PBS for now, I think), Gary Null (if you ever start to think of yourself as a goofball, watch this guy. Your self-esteem will go through the roof), Wayne Dyer, and Deepak Chopra. There are probably others. Then there's the book/movie/tape tie-ins from the "Lincoln Center Tribute to Every Obscure Damned Pothead Jazz Musician Who Ever Lived" or whatever the gala flavor of the week happens to be. Given that privately financed channels now show science and nature stuff, and there are more educational documentaries on The History Channel than PBS ever had (yeah, there's some crap on THC, but there's plenty of solid history, too) why the hell are these communist puke-swillers getting even a penny of tax money? They serve no public purpose that isn't better served by private cable channels. Why do they even exist anymore? |
