Please, whatever you do dont use one of those do it yourself kits. Wherever you go ask to see their car and look at the job they did on their own vehicle.

I tried doing one of those 4"wide tinting strips at the top of the windshield once - boy did I learn my lesson

Just go to a pro window tint place. The aggravation and time you go through is not worth it. pay the money and leave it to the pros.

Yes it will cut down on interior heat, and a good film such as Madico will also cut out 99% of UV rays. The only way to tell if he is going to do a good job is to see som of his work. Make sure the gap at the top of  the window is not too big or too small for that matter.  Some tint shop like mine actually have a 40inch plotter that you put the roll of tint in and select the vehicle and it cuts it perfectly every time. Like I said Madico is the best film out there. We use the Onyx line which is black film with a lifetime warranty. Any other questions just ask and I would be happy to answer them..
Thanks

Yes it does keep it a lot cooler inside, because my film block 99% of UV the interior won't fade.  Have it professionally done.  Most of the time you get what you pay for too.  Ask for a 100% metal film.  These don't fade as they don't use dyes that will lose darkness or turn blue over time.  My shop used SunTek films.  I paid right around $400 for the Explorer to be tinted all the way around 35% on the front doors, 5% on rear doors and rear sides (on top of the factory 20%) and 20% on the rear window (on top of the factory 20%).  I had UV shield (totally clear but blocks 99% of UV light) on the windshield.  My wife sunburns in like 10min so we have a medical waiver issued by VA DMV to allow the windshield to have film on it.  Ask for examples of their work and if it has a warranty and if they use single pieces on large windows. Another good metal film is Formula One, my Ranger has this on it.

Skeeters65 is right on the money,Madico is indeed the best.I have preferred it over 3M when not too long ago I tinted windows for a living. Don't have the patience and savvy anymore.Let a reputable experienced installer do the job, the extra cost is worth it.
