Why do perfect strangers want to tell about all the crap going on in their lives? Do I really want to hear about your hemmroids or the squirrels in your attic?

I am a UPS delivery driver so I come into contact with about 100 people a day. It is truly amazing what some of these people (whom I have never seen before) will tell you. I know I can be a heartless, noncompassionate bastard and I am ok with that, but why do people think I care why their grass won't grow, or that they have bladder control problems, or that they moved into their house in 1973, or that they can't leave the house because of explosive diarreah. ALL of this is stuff I really don't need to know.  Please take your package and let me get on with my job.

Anyone else have this problem or am I just being oversensitive today?

Who wants to come to this site and see what a grumpy UPS driver has to say???

It's payback for those UPS assholes who say "Adult verification only?  Whatcha order there, champ?" when I receive gun parts and ammo.

When my ammo orders from Sportsmans Guide show up, I hide inside, peak out the blinds and watch the UPS guys facial expressions as he makes return trips to the truck for boxes...lol...

I like to talk to my mail man. I just want to show I'm friendly. It pays off, he delivered me a book that I left at the bus stop when I was in High School.

I guess you think small talk is a pain. I'll make sure not to say hi to any UPS people again. I wont even say thank you.

"Give me my package and get out of my property" will be the next line I use to a UPS guy.

Really? I am too busy snatching the package from the UPS guy's hand and greedily absconding with it into my apartment to talk to them.

are you from a big city?  lots of small town folks like to chit chat..at least that has been my experience.

when i started community college we had to interview other students for one of my classes...
this old lady started telling me about her hysterectomy..  i'm in my early 20's, i don't want to hear that shit..no man wants to hear that!

You should network and talk nice with these people. You would be surprised in how a little friendly conversation can bring you many friends and may even have help for you if you need it.

I like my UPS lady. She leaves my boxes on the front step and takes off. It doesn't matter what it says on the box. One time I came out and found 24 lbs of smokeless powder. Good thing for the neighborhood the local brats didn't find it first.

I kind of miss being a UPS man

I use to come in contact with a lot of house wives, I never did take advantadge of it either.
Office women were the worse

But I did meet my wife on my route, her parents shop was on my route, and they were closed with a note to deliver to their residence.  The rest is history

As far as listining to all the people it can get very funny at times, guys bitching about their wives, and vise versa, vacation woes, and all the other trivial shit that makes the world go around

One of the UPS drivers we used to have would tell US stories.  Really nice guy though and big-time conservative.

Don't chat with the private delivery people...

However, my mail lady is quite interesting to talk to (no, I don't 'hit it' -> religeous issues aside, she's my mom's age & married), and (odd for a civil service employee) is quite the republican...

We talk politics when she's not running late on her route...

Who gives a fuck what you think, give me my ammo and LEAVE!

I usually just say thanks, after he brings a case or two of ammo up the stairs to my apartment.

Helpin out our UPS man paid off today. Every day we bring out big carts and help unload the truck, and today he brought us all ribs today just as a thank you. Our UPS driver is awesome. One time at work we all put in on a fat reloading order and when he brought it he was like WTF is all this shit?? And we opened it up and he damn near crapped his pants when he saw all the stuff we got. Tons of brass, 16 pounds of powder, a rifle stock, bandoleers, he thinks we're preparing for WW3.

The last time I got an order from SG, it was a chick that drove the truck. She put the box down, and huffed "Damn, this is heavy, what's in it? Ammo?"

Just to be clear, I don't have a problem making smalltalk with my customers I see everyday. They ask about my kids, how the day is going, weather, crap like that. I always shoot the breeze with my regular guys who get guns and ammo and they always want to show me the latest cool toy they picked up because they know I am interested.

What I don't get is the peolple I have never seen before in my life that proceed to tell you way more than you need to know. The hysterectomy is a good example. This is not something anyone wants hear about, especially a perfect stranger who is just delivering something to your house. I am there to do a job and I am always friendly and polite, say hello and goodbye, but I really don't have time to hear about your cousin's wedding last week, your kid in rehab, or that strange rash that won't go away.

It must be something about you. Almost no one tells me anything personal, but everyone corners my wife and tells the most embarrasing, intimate things about themselves and she has a hard time getting away from them.

I will just wave at her when she gets cornered at a party.

When someone starts talking about stuff you don't want to hear tell them to put it in a box and you'll ship it.

EDIT:  A little off topic, aren't I?

The UPS driver around here is an asswipe!!

Christmas 2002.  wiggy762 and I exchange gifts.  He sends me two Wilson mags.  Christmas comes and goes and I don't get a gift.  I'm not the kind to say, "Hey, where's my gift!"  wiggy finally asks, and I say I don't have it.  He says it was shipped UPS.  I get the info from him and call UPS.  UPS says it was delivered to me.  "Uhhh, hey dipshit - I didn't get it!"  They tell me there's nothing they can do; their paperwork says it was delivered to me.   About two days later, the apartment manager calls me and tells me there is a package for me.  She said another resident brought it in, saying that I never knocked on his door to claim my package.  The dipshit UPS driver gave it to a person who lives in my apartment building - a person that I have never met or even seen!  He never left me a notice or anything.  He delievered it about a week before Christmas - don't remember the exact number of days.

At the time, I didn't ask the manager for the apartment number of the guy who received my package -figured it was best...

FUCK UPS!  And yes, I started a thread in the old site with that title.

Yes they are wrong. I try to look like an ass. I never smile.  People tell me I look grumpy all the time. People only say this stupid crap to me at work. In the real world people never talk to me at all. Maybe it's just the uniform.
