Even before his father was in the ground, little ‘no chin’ Ron just had to land a couple zingers on President Bush. I saw him a few months ago on Hardball, or maybe H & C, where he lit into President Bush – so I had a feeling he would try something like this. IMHO, its ALL about jealousy, since he, the son of #40, biggest accomplishment was a failed talk show, and the son of #41’s biggest accomplishment is becoming #43. There are some things that are beyond question IMHO, and one of them is how and to what degree you choose to express you own personal religious beliefs – and I think Ronald Reagan would have agreed. You might not like it, but you NEVER make a public statement complaining or jabbing about it, especially at a funeral. Ron Reagan Jr. is a powerless loser – and he knows it. We can feel sadness for his loss, but that gives him no excuse to make these pathetic potshots. Added - for thoes in a cave, this is the remark Dad was also a deeply, unabashedly religious man. But he never made the fatal mistake of so many politicians wearing his faith on his sleeve to gain political advantage. True, after he was shot and nearly killed early in his presidency, he came to believe that God had spared him in order that he might do good. But he accepted that as a responsibility, not a mandate. And there is a profound difference |

| ROFL My dad and I were talking about him the other night, my dad said something to the effect "Back in the day everyone thought he was a fruit cake, he was all into dressin up in tights and doin that ballet thing. And that daughter of theirs is a stone cold bitch, even wrote a book about how bad her dad was. " |

This is the bio of Ron Jr. (he does not deserve the last name, so I will not honor him with it), so we can all see why he is so angry - he's a loser compared to George W. Bush. Ron Reagan, 44, is the youngest of the Reagan children. Like his father, he has pursued a career in entertainment and broadcasting, although many remember him as a member of the Joffrey Ballet in the 1980s while his parents were in the White House. Since then, he has been working in television, producing or appearing in several cable programs, doing voice-overs or hosting programs on cable channels like Animal Planet. Like his sister Patti, Ron Reagan diverged from his father's politics and party, and has appeared often as a liberal commentator on political round-table shows on cable. Last year, he tried his hand at hosting a political talk show on MSNBC. Ron Reagan lives in Seattle with his wife, Doria. |
Dang, I was listening to it and I thought his brother was still talking, I thought that line was aimed at Kerry. |
Not to get too muddled here – but there are two issues here. The first is the content of the statement, and the second is the forum for its delivery. IMHO, the first is debatable, but the second is NOT – political attacks and eulogies do NOT mix. So, I’ll give him a break on what he said – I don’t agree with it, but that’s his opinion. However, using a eulogy for political potshots is something one does NOT give breaks on, at least in my book. |

Yep, we heard the dickhead say it while we were watching it on the local cable channel. My wife (who is not Mrs. Politics, but wanted to watch Pres. Reagan's funeral as it was history) looked at me, and said, "Damn, he's taking a stab at George Bush, and using his father's funeral for a cheap shot." Damn proud of her! I guess the ballet-dancer had to get in his cheapshots anyway he could...

| That's funny I didn't think of it as a cheap shot at all--we all know that politicians do wear their emotions and sometimes their faith on their sleeves as fits the moment; he was saying his dad was genuine. If anything, it was a dig at Bill Clinton; there is NO love lost between those two families after all the insults Bill hurled at Reagan's administration during Bill's campaign. |

I am not so sure he aimed the comment at W either. I thought it was aimed at Clinton. For example when he called upon the that pillar of American faith, Jessie Jackson, to consul him on the Lewinski cigar scandal. And, I find it difficult to argue that W uses faith as a poltical lever to any greater extent than did President Reagan. In fact, when you think about it... Reagan's entire basis of the return of American hedgmony was grounded on religous - moral foundations... i.e. the "Shining City on the Hill" is right out of the Bible. If Reagan Prescot did aim the comment on Bush... I am sure some liberal reporter will be more than happy to have him expand upon it in the comming days. |
Well, Reagan wouldn' t be the first father who differered with his children on ideology so one has to consider the baggage the children carried when growing up. I thought all three kids gave very good talks about their father. As far as Ron.'s comment being about Bush or Kerry, or Clinton, if the shoe fits, wear it. As far as eulogies not being about political ideology, it seems to me nearly all of the people eulogizing Reagan brought up policitical ideology. Heck, what made Reagan great was his ideology. |
Patti Davis came out and publicly apologized to her father for her past actions. Since then, she stood by his side and helped Nancy throught the last ten years. Good enough for me. |

First – Ron has been, for the past few years, an argent Anti Bush crybaby. Here are some articles, which show this… Link #1 Link #2 Link #3 Link #4 In addition to this, there are claims that Ron is a self-declared atheist, and they use this quote to back it up…
Now, his religious believes are his business, but if this is true, I could see how an overtly religious president like George W. Bush could tick me off. Link #5 Link #6 - 'The Jesus Factor' video clips on PBS If it were directed at Bill Clinton, which I seriously doubt, it would still be inappropriate. |
| Frankly, no matter what his comments are, the 100,000's that paid tribute to RR will see little Ron for what he is, he has only hurt himself and his future by using a funeral as his platform. If his intent was one of disrespect, then it will haunt him for ever. There were millions of witnesses. |
