So for everyone who eats ramen what Brand and Flavor is the best?
Keep it to the 25-50cent range ramen, not that fancy $1 stuff you rich folks can get.

Maurchan brand Shrimp flavor I say.

I'm kinda partial to the regular ole "Oriental" myself.

Beef  , prok, or chicken.

I dont care I am adding crap into it anytways.

Do you have a brand peferance?  The Maurchan are good, so are the Nissin.  That stuff they have at walmart sucks.

I would have to say Oriental is my favorite but I love them all.  Best meal for $0.10!

I don't know the exact english translation, but there's a brand called Uni-President. personal favorite is the spring onion flavor. It's an actual brand that asians buy and eat. I can get them at the local Safeway for roughly 60 cents a pack, but they're 49 cents a pack at the asian supermarkets.

Maruchan and Top Ramen are the brands to stay away from...

The beef, chicken, and shrimp all pretty much taste the same to me, just the color of the soup is different.

I like to eat the noodles right out of the bag too.

Get the Terrayki chicken ones, crumble the noodles then spring the flovoring over them.  thats the best way I found to eat them dry.

Man this should be in the Survival forum.

I vote for Chicken flavor. They all taste like chicken anyway, you might as well get the one that's supposed to.

Mac and cheese is better

None since I throw out the season packet and use the noodles for other cooking purposes

I like the Top Ramen.  Sam's Choice's noodles are good, but the sauce packets leave much to be desired.

Favorite flavorings include creamy chicken, roast chicken, oriental, and chicken.

I had never had them any other way than dry until I was 15 or 16.  My cousin and I used to eat them by the block when we were young and his dad was poor.

If you really want to treat yourself get those Korean bowls of ramen.  Very spicy and I have yet to come across a flavor or brand I don't like.

I get whatever is on sale at the time. Most of the time the typical "sale" price is 10/$1. Combination of Beef, chicken, shrimp.
6/11/2004 5:22:09 AM EDT
[#17]
While cooking it, a minute or so before its done, drop a whole egg in it. Its ggggggrrrrrreat!

Twenty-five cents? When it goes on sale, I get it for $.12 or $.15. When I was living in SC, it regularly went for a dime a package. Hard to beat that. I'd buy a couple of cases at a time.
6/11/2004 5:26:14 AM EDT

Creamy Chicken is my favorite Ramen.   .25 cents a pack.  Yummmmm!

How come Top Ramen are so high in fat content?  Is it from the noodles itself, or from the packaged spice?

Hell yeah.

In college I had a korean guy for a roommate. He had a closet full of these and got me hooked:

I like the real Korean ones from Asian stores (Hey, I lived on that and chap chai ba for a year)
But for generic cheap ones To Ramen is what I buy. I had some last night, dropped seom cooked ground beef in it just before I took it off the stove, then dropped a piece of American Cheese ove rthe top. Super good.
I like it with an egg, too, and sometimes chopped veggies.

With the old dehydrated pork and beef patties it made MRE's a feast.

Top Ramen beef or pork flavor...

with a slice of thin roast beef sandwich meat or frozen Vietnamese beef balls or fish balls

The noodles are cooked in oil and is why they aren't good for long term storage.

Buy them all!

My brand is Maurchan and I kinda like the Chili flavored ones, close second is Beef for me, then Pork third, and lastly Oriental. I don't care too much for the Chicken flavored ones.

It's basically a small block of asian noodles and a small foil packet of spice powder. You stick the noodles in water for a couple of minutes to soften them up, dump on the spice pack and you've got soup. The noodles can be eaten without cooking as well.

They make a good quick snack, and if you add other stuff they can make a pretty good meal.

So if I had a bunch of pre-cooked chicken I could just throw it in and make a meal, eh??? Interesting.

Yep. I'll cook a breaded chicken patty, slice it up and add it to a bowl of noodles and call it a meal... Cheap chicken and noodles soup ( $0.10 for the noodles, $0.50 for the breaded chicken).

I've often added a can of chicken to the creamy chicken.  Also veggies.

One can make a very good meal out of a package of ramen noodles with the proper additions.

Top Ramen brand, in this order:
Shrimp
Oriental
Beef
Chicken
with a healthy dab of cayenne pepper in the water before it begins to boil.

Occasionally I'll throw a handful of 'shrooms in the water also, but they turn the sauce an UGLY brown color. But it still tastes great.

I heard prison inmates like to eat "Cup -O- Noodles" with corn nuts?
6/11/2004 4:00:20 PM EDT

Try this:
Take two packets and cook normally, but only use one spice packet during the boil. Drain all water then mix in second seasoning pack. Heat pretty hot a frying pan with bit of oil/butter/olive oil whatever.  Dump in noodles and fry until one side turns light brown, then flip over and do same to other side. Makes a large noodle crunchy pancake with a soft middle. Dump some cooked chicken, vegies, etc on top and its even better.

When done properly, it even "looks" like a fancy meal.

I'm originally from Korea (ate a boat load of ramen when I was there) and now if I try that so-called "ramen" packs selling in standard grocery stores I almost throw it up. Nothing but spices and noodle itself. The soup smells too "chemical" for my taste and noodle is (relatively) very low quality. I'd rather eat Vancamp's pork and beans ($.33 a pop) over that anyday.

I hope they bring these "better ramen" ($0.50~0.75) in large quantities to American grocery stores.

Just about anyone (excluding the rich) with a decent firearms collection eats ramen noodles. How do you think I could afford to buy an M16 and suppressors on my pay?

I like the beef flavor. I boil the noodles plain, drain all water, THEN add the beef flavor packet.

I like Ramen Beef noodles. I microwave them. Smash the noodles while still in the package.
Pour noodles in microwave safe bowl. Cover noodles completely with water by 1/2 inch.
Microwave on high for 3 minutes 30 seconds. Remove from microwave and add seasoning packet.
Stir vigorously until seasoning is well mixed. Then, eat it!

My 5 and 2 year old destroy this in seconds flat!

Had enough Ramen.. When my Dad got home from Korea in the 70's that was all he wanted to eat.

What was funny he was always asking the kids to walk up and down his back too

Maurchan  Hot and Spicy Chicken flavour is really really good....

I like the $.10 packs from Safeway but it doesn't really matter which brand to me.
I haven't tried the more expensive ones, I may have to give them a shot.

Favorate Order
1) Chicken
2) Beef
3) Pork
4) Oriental
5) All the other flavors taste like crap.

The last time I ate it as soup was probably 20+ years ago (I'm 32)

For me it's the boil water, cook 2 packets of noodles for exactly 3 minutes, drain, rinse with fresh hot tap water to remove all the starch, and put on 1 flavor packet.

Sad thing is that ever since I was a kid it has been more of a breakfast food for me.  I guess I'm just wierd that way

what are you defining "long term"? I've eaten two year old TopRamen Packages, and other than tasting a little bit like they always do, they were fine.....
