My username may give you a hint how I know… Ever race Pleasure Valley and if so is Jeff Cernic still a dipshit? No to PV. Other side of state. District 6 (Eastern to Central PA, NY, NJ). Don't know Jeff personally. However, I have lined up next to Barry Carsten (he's still wining races) fresh off a Daytona Supercross qualification... I'm 53 now, stopped racing competitively in early 40's. Considering getting back at it in a SxS. |

Make sure your insurance is up to date, money set aside for deductible. Oh, and lose 30-40 pounds on that gut because falling at 200 vs 160 makes a hell of a difference. Good luck and have fun!

That's allot of bike if it's your first one. A four wheeled ATV might have been the better purchase. You can crash a sand rail or supped up side by side and walk away. I'm sure you will take it easy at first, when you get into trouble is when you start to get comfortable on it! Enjoy and make sure your insurance is paid up!

You will break something but it is your life so enjoy it until that happens. Seriously though the more a person weighs the more force they have when they hit the ground. Impacts you could take when you were much lighter are going to hurt a lot more. Not to mention cartilage stiffening up and hardening makes a person less flexible. Getting back down to the weight you were when you were younger will help you stay safer.

Not to mention cuts, rash, burns, stitches, and hematomas. All said, I do it again. Have fun, be as safe as you can. Best helmet, boots, gear available. Definitely a Leatt neck brace too. Brrapp! |

Have a couple buds that mid-life-crisised their way back into MX. The one did not take his first crash well, was laid up about 6 weeks. Back on his feet now but still has to have the collarbone reattached.
Good luck! |

First of all, tell anybody who gives you that "midlife crisis" bs to FUCK OFF! I'm sure you've been responsible and made countless sacrifices over the years, now you can take a break and have some fun.
Having said that, I'd probably choose something with a little less risk of ER visits! |

Found my problem quick as that, did ya’! I just found trail riding to be so much more adventurous. Mid 50’s and still get along pretty well. I’m missing a guys trip to Michigan and single track right now. Work is holding me back for this one. I took my family to the same spot in late July. |

Been training for 4+ months and rode MX for the 1st time in 5+ years on my 03 CRF450R yesterday.
I rode 4 20 min motos going as fast as I felt comfortable. Started hitting a couple of jumps on the gas as well. Suspension was a little soft because I was 30 lbs lighter when I was racing it. I held on until the last moto and put it way before I hurt myself. Weight training with cardio was very helpful keeping me on the track where we belong. Looking at a new CRF450R and suspension springs and tuning. Yes, I felt like a truck hit me this morning. It felt awesome. 50 YO next month. HOLD THE GAS!! @Jarhead94 Where in Tx, did you ride near the metroplex? |

Im 56 ..I gravel raced around Guthrie, OK last weekend. I crashed 3 times. "who put that singletrack there?" A lot of guys older than me were killing it. 60yearolds using terms like "sketch" and "gnar"

Good luck. I used to ride in the dirt and woods nothing fast just for fun. Yes if you fall it will hurt and you will break. But have fun. I just sold a Suzuki Bergman 400 for a friend and I could have brought it but after riding it I was done. It felt like a snowmobile on wheels. Just not for me. Maybe a small Harley or a old dirt bike to fix up and ride a little next year.

You can still ride, just stick to under 15mph and flat surfaces.

Hell yeah! I'm sure you won't be going balls to the wall like you may have when you were younger. Age and wisdom has taught you to be cautious but that doesn't mean you can't have fun!
Shit, I still ride my skateboard but I have new limits on what I can do. I'll be 60 soon. Good luck in your training and in your upcoming races! |

Cheaper than my buddy's midlife crisis want. Even with medical bills.
He's looking into pilot licenses and Cessnas. |
