There is another thread complaining about gun shop employees so I thought I would start a thread about the customers.

Those of you who work in gun shops please post your customer horror stories.  I've only been working in one for a week and a half and I can fill a couple pages with stories.  I suck at telling stories but here are a couple.

"The Sniper"
This older little guy comes in asking for a cleaning product that I have never heard of.   I offer to research the product and order it in for him but he tells me never mind.  He then asks me where the nylon bristly bore brushes are and I point him in the right direction.  By this time I have noticed that this guy reaks to high heaven and probably hadnt taken a shower in weeks.  He brings the brushes to the counter and starts in about how he just bought a custom Chandler rifle for $5000 and wont use anything but nylon brushes.  He continues on saying how we dont sell anything as accurate as his rifle and how we dont appreciate fine shooting and accuracy.  I was getting nosiated (sp) by the smell of this guy and began wondering when he would ever leave.  I finally told him to stop by with his rifle because I would love to see it at which time he left.

"Mr. Full Auto"
There's this butthole who always comes in and parks his butt on a stool.  He never buys anything and wants to hold everything.  Everytime you hand him a gun he tells you "I can make this full auto by doing such and such". To which I reply, thats a good way to land yourself in prison.  This whole thing gets really old especially when there are other customers who want to be helped and will actually buy something.

"Out of School for the Summer"
I dont know what it is about a gun shop but it attracts all the hoodlums.  Especially now that they are out of school and have nothing better to do.  One day we had this guy and his buddy come in.  The one sounds like he may have read a gun magazine or two and was there to impress his friend.   This was our conversation.  Me+""  Do you have any Smith & Wesson .500's? "Not right now, we've had about 10 come through but they are purchased with a day or so.  If our distributor has them in stock I can have you one in 3 days, if not it could be weeks.  Would you like me to order you one?  I will need 25% down."  No, I'm not looking to buy right now.  Do you have any Smith & Wesson .500 ammo? "Yes we do, here are a few loads from Corbon." Well thats a step up.   (What the heck, a step up from what?  This idiot didnt even want to buy the gun".

I could go on forever!

What about the "Navy SEAL" that carries a gold plated Desert Eagle which he used to make 100+ confirmed kills?

I don't work in a shop, but any Saturday morning I'm not at the range, I am likely in a particular shop, so I have seen some customer horror stories.

Guy and girl walk in. Girl is obviously bored out of her skull. Guy is very excited. Girl looks, trepidatiously, at icky mounted animal heads. Guy looks enthusiastically at 18" + a fartskin home defense shotguns. Racks actions, throws to shoulder. Throws to shoulder and racks. Looks around (unsuccessfully, thank God) for a mirror in which to watch himself throw shotgun to shoulder and rack. Picks one. Calls girl over, says "This one." Girl whips out Visa card. Counterman asks for guy's ID. Guy says "Wha?? The gun is for her!" Counterman's brow grows cloudy. You can see the rest. The parting shot was "Come back when you have a driver's license."

Now, I don't care who owes what guns, but this twit took 30 minutes of the man's time picking a shotgun and another 20 trying to convince the guy to forfeit his license by "selling the girl" a gun she couldn't have picked out of a lineup consisting of the shotgun, an AR and a Krag. What a dick!

What about the "OG" that thinks every black gun is a Glock?

Gun shops do attract some weirdos.  They all tell fishing stories like crazy too.

"I'd buy an AR-15, but my Mini is what the Special Forces use.  I saw it on A-Team"

"Is that thing full-auto?"  LOL

"I want to get me one a them Calicos, my video games has a cool one"

Or the 700+ Hi-Points we have sold to people who say they are just as good as a Glock.

If you never practice with either one, they are just as good - except that the Hi-Point makes a better club.

Ohh man!  I almost forgot
"The Historian"
These are the guys who come in and rip apart a $120 WWI rifle and complain about serial numbers not matching up and on and on!  If it was a mint gun and had matching serial numbers it wouldnt be $120.  I thought that would be obvious.  I pretend to act interested and smile.  These guys are usally pretty smelly also.  Along with all the complaints usually comes a story about how the gun was made and used and blah blah blah

If I may quote my post in the other thread...

There are assholes on both sides of the counter.

Now *cough* if ya had the cutout here - it'd be a milled section *snort* * hack* oh, yea wide and as deep as yer thumbnail, well then you'd have the grenadier's model - that's a collectible, and you could ASK $120 for it, ya see?

At least your not complaining about the guy who comes in once a month or so and plops down several hundred dollars for a new gun, and then proceed to ask a million questions about ammo or cleaning or other new guns that you just got in, which I obviously don't intend to buy today.

It must be the "comes in every month or so and plops down several hundred dollars" part that makes us so endearing.

The only thing I buy at gunstores are guns, The usual gunstore 200 % mark up on ammo and excessories is ridiculous.
I was in this gun shop during deer season and this piece of white trailer trash bursts in with a bloody deer head ! He's all excited that he shot this tiny little spike with his sks he just had to get another box of that awsome wolf HP ammo !`A box of wolf was $ 6 !

OMG LMAO...
i agree there are assholes on both sides,,,, and you knwo what im the dick that walks in,,looks at a few things,,talks with only oneof the guys,,since ive seen himat ranges and shows and yes i have bought a few weapons there..ill ask him about how certain guns are selling,,what histake on certain brands are,if they had any  returns,, maybe ask to see something. i dont always have the 5-800$ to drop on a new shinny ptr or full decked out AR, i spend most of my money on c+r stuff and ammo,,heck i spend enuff in ammo per yer to buy that ar or ptr 3 times over.
one thing i can say tho
is i know what types your talking about and i add one more to your list..

""swat /SRT memeber""
this is the 20-30ish year old guy who walks into the store, wearing a fresh high and tight,a black or grey HK ""when all else fails.."" shirt, some hi-tec magnums and black or blue bdu pants.. they usally walk right over to the AR section look around maybe ask to see a RRA super short all tricked out laser/light/viagra enhanced bullet hose...then talk about how they have the same, how at 600yrds it will  get 2inch groups with that fancy reflex sight,,blah blah... then he will wander over to the pistols,,look at the glocks,,ask for the newest one to look at,, or he will look at the Hk's,,some times one will look a the bolt guns,, but only at a ""sniper"" rifle....then they will buy one box of hydra shocks for their ""service 9mm"" and leave.

Why would I do that?  If the person spends money on occasion I have no problem helping them.  I get annoyed when a non paying customer takes away time from a paying customer.

We used to have a few dickheads that would come in and talk with us because we knew more, and then drive 45 minutes away to save $10.  I finally started throwing them out.

After having worked in a gunshop, anytime I go into one if I take up any of the salesman's time I buy something.  There's always something I can use whether it be a box of ammo or cleaning supplies or whatever.

I've got to laugh, I saw one of those SWAT type guys at a gun shop the other week.  I was visiting Charleston and stoped by Carolina Rod and Gun on the Savannah highway.  I went to to look at a Remington 673 that he had 4-5 months ago as a consignment (wasn't too bad of a price).  I also wanted to see if they had anything new.  Well I can't help but overhear this SWAT type (who exactly matches the description given earlier).  He's talking about how in shape he and his SWAT buddies are compared to the typical cop.  He even goes on to talk about how his girlfriend can out shoot all the non-SWAT guys he knows.  As I was checking out a grossly overpriced used Ruger Bisley, it took ever fiber of my being not to start laughing at this rather animated fella.  There were 3 or 4 people working there that day.  Three younger fellas and one older.  While the three young guys were hanging on his every word, the old guy looked like he'd heard this same story before.

The ones that drive me nuts are the "Homies"

Come in and want to fiddle with every AK, SKS, and AR-15 saying how "dat's what cha need in da hood bro." and making all the approprite machinegun noises while swinging it around on thier hip.

Also, all guns are a nine or a 40.  And they always want a holster and extended magazines for their Hi-Point pistols that the most likley do not have a permit for.

Though I have not seen one hold a pistol "gangster" style.

THe idiots who sell stolen guns are a diffrent matter, as are the people who put a Hi-point or SKS on lay away.

Its not one or the other.  There is trouble on both sides of the counter.

I dont work at a gun shop and I am also the one who started the thread about ignorant gun shop employees.  I understand that there are assholes on both sides of the counter but the gun shops have to remember one thing we make there paychecks possible.  If I buy a gun once a month and Patronize your buisness and also sit and shoot the breeze and ask a couple questions about your other products then dont bitch  I just spent $600 dollars of my hard earned money here.  Most of the problem with gun shops acting like assholes is poor management and lack of professionalism.  There is a chain of gun shops around where I live called shoot straight they are very professional there employees might not know everything but they are Courteous and alot of that has to do with the management of the store. Its the mom and pops shop's sometimes that when you walk in you have to look around for 10 minutes just to get them to show you something or help you out, then when they do they act as if we are bothering them.  All  im saying is you employees have to put up with us because we are the reason you have a job if you dont like "putting up with customers" then you dont belong in the customer service buisness.

Unfortunately i agree with this too. When i did some time behind the counter id easily get 10 freak hot heads to 1 good person.

i lothed the people that I always wanted to haggel the price on new guns .

I got along best with the  war era arms collectors and the compeditive shooters.
For some reason it was always the hunter types that rubbed me the wrong way.
