I do well in heat and humidity. It's the damn cold that I hate.

Continue to consuming water and electrolytes. Otherwise there is a good chance you will wake up in the middle of the night to cramping.
You def got behind on your water intake. You will most likely be dragging ass tomorrow. |

Quoted: I did the same thing last Friday. I had a couple thousand pounds of steel to move onto a trailer in our warehouse and our mini-skid was broke down, so I did it by hand. Heat index was around 100 and air temp inside the tin can warehouse building was hovering around 110. I drank all my water and said to myself I was almost done. I just about passed out. Us northerners aren’t used to this shit. Give me -20F over this any time. Then I can put my carhartt on and work all day. This shit is unreasonable…. View Quote nope. i had to deal with 16 degrees in february i'd rather deal with a fucking hurricane. 100+ where your socks are wet and you have to pour water on a wrench you forgot to put down in the shade is good with me |

You guys need to really aware of heat exhaustion and heat prostration, that stuff is really dangerous.

Quoted: I’m just waiting when we go full pads after a few “heat acclimation” practices. It’s brutal enough in full synthetic clothing with a hat and sunglasses. View Quote I distinctly recall the "water is for the weak" mantra during my first full pads practice of the year at 110°, and a day or two later Korey Stringer dying of heat exhaustion in training camp for the Vikings. Suddenly monitoring the temp and excessive water breaks were the new norm. |

Low 90's in Seattle as I hitched up the trailer and loaded for a long weekend trip to the coast. That's HOT for here. Now we're in the dunes, 60 degrees with misty fog, love it.

I found an unconscious guy on a roof last week. He was baking in the sun for hrs before I found him. Fire had to crane him off the roof, don't know if he made it.

I had heat stroke 3 years ago. If my sister had not been able to find me I would have died. Luckily I was working a few miles from her house. When I was checked out my BP was extremely low and my HR was incredible. When I came to I felt like I was dying, not something I ever want to experience again. Confusion for days after and it permanently changed my body. I've had 3 other serious heat injuries prior.
I cannot regulate body temp now and have to be VERY careful. As soon as I feel the scalp tingle and/or ears stop up I have to high gear it inside. It is disheartening as I've been a hard worker all my life. My recipe for electrolytes: In a quart of water add 1tsp Morton lite salt (Potassium and Sodium), 1/4 tsp Epsom Salt (Magnesium) and lemon juice plus sweetener to taste. It works fast. Unfortunately my body cannot uptake as fast as I sweat so at best it keeps me from cramping all night if I get too hot but it's much better than spending the night in the hospital or ending up dead. |

I felt your pain yesterday.
After 20 years of land surveying outside in central FL, I succumbed to heat exhaustion myself. By noon I started experiencing disorientation, muscle cramping, headache, and I stopped sweating. After (very stupidly) pushing through another 45 minutes to the end of our task, I returned to the truck to get a drink, snack, and some a/c. Then after a 30- minute break, I loaded up my camelbak and went back to work. By the time I got home, the cramping and headache had worsened, and after getting cleaned up and dinner, started getting the shivers. Mild fever at 100.7. Drank a Gatorade, and later a pedialyte before bed. The fever broke around midnight, and this morning I woke up to soaked sheets from night sweats, but otherwise feeling much better. Still a mild headache, and some cramps, but nowhere near yesterday. The funny thing is, by central FL standards, yesterday wasn’t even that bad. I’ve certainly worked much harder in much hotter conditions. I even had a couple water breaks in the morning before the symptoms started showing. I think it was a lack of salts that did me in. Just chugged another Gatorade and am heading out for round two right now. Going to take it a little easy today, filled my camelbak with ice and will be wearing it all day. Wish me luck. |

Quoted: Holy crap it's hot out. Worked most of the day outside, no shade. Lost about 5 lbs AFTER drinking 4 bottles of water and 30b0z of "caffeine water". Kicked my ass. I pushed too far and started getting cramps, had to go cool off in the truck. Stay hydrated folks. Ib4 some of our West Coast members advise me of what a pussy I am...... View Quote thank you Karen |

We have 11k of protein and cottonseed to fill feeders with this weekend outside of Laredo. They are about 10ft tall so have to climb a ladder with every 50# sack.
Only two people ended up being able to go. I'm probably going to die. |

Quoted: 4 bottles is nowhere near enough for being outside this time of year. Drink in gallons. View Quote I found out (the hard way) that massive quantities of water can dilute your bloodstream. Gotta replace the electrolytes and minerals you lose sweating, sodium in particular. Sodium deficiency is no joke, it can literally kill you. Edit: looks like it’s been covered. Even still, it’s worth repeating. |

I work outside year round, even winter can dehydrate you. My biggest morning load out is liquids, water, gatorade, V8. Lots of fruit as well---a can of pineapple right out of the cooler is sublime at mid-day.
A personal rule is if I open a 20oz bottle of water, I drink it all at once. No sips, just chug. Pro tip, if you drink gatorade, fruit juices or any kind of energy drink, wash your mouth out with water. That stuff sitting on your teeth is bad. My woman works in the dental field and has drilled that into me for years. |
