Anyone going to see this flick? I think it looks pretty cool... way better than Pitch Black...

It looks absolutely kick-ass.  I plan on seeing it ASAP.  I hope it lives up to the hype.

I'm going to a screening next Wed. - one of the perks of having a husband that works for Universal Pictures.

I LOVED Pitch Black - though it was one of the best movies that was out that year.

I'm really looking forward to Riddick, but I'm also prepared to be diasppointed.  You never know with that kind of a film.

I just saw Pitch Black last night, I thought it was pretty cool...

Can't WAIT for the new one to come out. The DVD came with a free ticket to see the new movie in theaters; so I kinda gotta see it..

I think Riddick looks pretty sweet personally. Only one problem is that Vin Diesel is in it. I don't think he's the greatest actor although he was in Saving Private Ryan and that was good.

To me Riddick kind of reminds me of the Dune movies. Is this a take off from that?

Pitch Black was the shit. They never "overplayed" the creatures, and used old school suspense to build up scenes. The new movie doesn't look like that.....

"Pre-" type movies are always "iffy".

I thought I had seen Pitch Black, but I think I was mistaken, because I didn't think it had anything to do with Riddick.  Can some one please elaborate?

Big screen no , DVD for sure

Riddick was a character in pitch black...one of the great movies defeated by a crappy script...

In the original script, the woman was supposed to live and Riddick was supposed to be the one killed.  The studio changed it because they realized that Vin Diesel had better box office potential for a sequel so they killed off the no name woman actor instead.

THe main character (Vin somebody or other?) always plays the same character, put him in a little neon colored ricer car and you would have his fast and stupid movie...no?

I just checked an Pitch Black is on Sci Fi tonight at 8pm EST. Maybe I'll have to watch it and find out what the fuss is about.

Edit: Meant to type Pitch Black, not Bitch Black LOL

This isn't a "Pre-" it's a sequel.  The game that's out on XBox (Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay) is a prequel to Pitch Black.

Just remember that the animals live on air.......there ain't nothing to eat. And all the stupid cliches of every movie are in there somewhere. Just once, I would like to see , when the stupid character does the stupid thing, somebody just shoot him.

Seriously?

I thought for sure this was meant to take place chronologially before the events of Pitch Black.

Shows how little I know.

Yeah, it would be nice if they would make movies that don't follow such predictable formulas... Swordfish was a little like that but it tried to hard. Still a decent movie although I think John Travolta is a serious overactor in that one.

Sci-fi movies seem to be a little more notorious for being predictable...

Pitch Black was good, definately Vin Deisels best movie after Saving Private Ryan.  I doubt Riddick will live up to the hype, or even Pitch Black.

Now I'm really confused.  I thought for sure that The Chronicles of Riddick  (I think that's the name of the new movie) was supposed to be a PRE-quel.  Am I wrong?

Pitch Black was good, I hope the new one is better than thae last two pieces of trash he's been in.

I wonder how he new it was a "cop issue Beretta" anyway? (XXX)
And "double clutching"? Shit, double clutch during a drag race and you're HISTORY.(the Stupid and the Worse)

Hope they've done away with the useless dialogue.

Yes, it's a sequel is says here that it takes place 5 years after "Pitch Black".  And the game review here says that it is a prequel and the movie is a sequel.

Bringing back the other two survivors for this movie might be kind of gay... didn't realize those characters were in it until I saw some making of thing on Sci-fi.

Well, I watched Pitch Black last night on Sci-Fi and thought it was just ok. The new one coming out looks good though...at least from the previews. It looks like a completely different movie than Pitch Black. I didn't hav etime to watch the making of Riddick special after Pitch Black was over last night though. I don't think I'll pay $8 to go see it though. I'll wait for it on video.

Probably been covered already... but I started this thread before the movie so it's not technically a dupe.

I saw it last week and was pleasantly surprised how cool it was. I'd probably even see it again. I love that trailing effect they use (kind of like the Matrix bullet dodge effect).

I think they pussified him a little by making him like that girl... but I guess everyone has moments of weakness.

They kind of ended it like the Conan movies where he's sitting on the throne with an ending line like, "... but that's a story for another time..." leaving it wide open for a sequel.

The effects, costumes, scenerey and all that were awesome in this movie. The detail they put into everything was incredible.

Anyone else see it?

yep, saw it opening weekend, it was definitley a lot of fun.  attention to detail was great, special effects were darn good, acting... well its an action movie ok?

Saw Riddick, it's OK. Leaves something to be desired, to me atleast.

Saw it too last weekend, thought it was pretty good.

I'd have to disagree with ya there, the way the other survivor guy was talking, and the way the girl acted in Pitch Black, it sounded like she looked at him (Riddick) as something of an older brother figure, so I kind of expected him to have at least some small feelings for her.  She was basically like a younger sister for him.

I've seen both.  Chronicles is a damned entertaining flick.  Good fight scenes.  Good dialogue.  Chronicles is 10 times the movie Pitch Black is.  Ending is clever, one of the best I've seen in a long time.  He must have "grown" since the first movie since his ass-kicking ability grew exponentially from Pitch Black.  In fact, he had a bit of "super-human" about him.

It doesnt seem to be doing that well.  Should be at my local 99cent movie soon, going to see Van Helsing there this week.

Unless you're only going to see it because Kate Beckinsale is in it, I wouldn't advise it.
