Getting ready to clean my hard drive and reinstall my OS.

I want to try and make getting all my "stuff" back on the system as simple as possible.

In Win98SE where is the password info (for instance login information for gun forums) stored?

That information is generally stored in cookies from the website.  Do a search for .txt files and you should find them with the name of the board in the filename.

The OS itself keeps some in *.pwl files, iirc.
IE / Netscape somewhere else.

When I delete cookies, Windows will still remember my pasword for websites.

I need to know where that info is stored.

Start Regedit

Find This Key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\IntelliForms

If you want to backup passwords, export this key and import it on a different machine or installation. You will also have to copy the {username}.pwl file and cookies to the new machine/installation. Sometimes, there are ActiveX programs that sit silently recording everything. You can check them out at Internet Options » Temporary Internet Files » Settings » View Objects. This will open the Downloaded Program Files folder in the windows folder. By right-clicking the contents, you can either remove them or check out their properties.

GOOGLE SEARCH FOR THAT KEY.    GOOD INFO HERE

Do you KNOW your passwords?  Then write them down.

But what you really need is to save all your bookmarks or favorites.  In Netscape you can export your Bookmarks.  Netscape, Bookmarks, Manage Bookmarks, Tools, Export.  Save that file to a disk, and later import it into Netscape the same way.

In IE, File, Import and Export, and follow the wizard to save your favorites to a file, put on a disk, restore it the same way later.

Now you can find all your favorite sites.

Then, when you come to Arfcom, or whereever, you enter your info as usual, and it will ask if you want it to remember the password, tell it yes.

I do but I don't want to have to re enter all that info if I can do a copy/paste.

My bookmarks are in my favorites folder and already copied.

For mozilla I found my pasword info. just trying to find the same for IE.
