I just broke my little toe on my left foot last night and damn does it hurt today! I was chasing one of my dogs thru the house, and I slammed my little toe into the recliner. I heard the "Crack", and Holy Shit did the pain shoot thru me fast. Anyone else ever broke a little toe before? How long did it take to heal? Just curious! |

I thought I broke the pinky toe a couple of years ago. I even went to the doc for it, he fussed around it, there was a loud snap a blinding flash of pain "Yeah I felt something there" I said at the time. THEN they took an xray, no it wasn't broken. Something wasn't right with the toe though for days it just kind of felt like it was flopping around inside my shoe and I've whacked it since then and I get the same feeling all over again. IT'S ALWAYS THE PINKY TOE! |

Surprisingly, the overwhelming majority of stubbed toes I see are fractured. Some don't even look that bad. I must of fractured mine at least 20 times. No treatment is necessary. Takes 4-6 weeks to heal. Ice, elevation, mainly protection from further injury and I do NOT recommend walking around barefoot at all. A good firm shoe is helpful. Don't even really think buddy taping the toes together is really very effective. It'll get better, just takes time. If the foot bones are fractured that is an entirely different matter. There are also potential complications so see a doc if things don't seemlike they are going ok. |
| I broke my fourth toe once. Caught it on the couch as I was running across the room. Lots of pain. It would get about 75% healed and then something would happen to re-break it. After a few months it stopped hurting, but to this day I can't bend that toe, and I can feel how the bone fused about 1/8" off-center. |
What he said...Unless it is the big toe, that's all a doctor is going to do for you. Between 1982 and 1986 I broke 9 of my 10 toes and some of them more than once. That's all the doctors do is to tape the broken one to the bigger of the two unbroken ones next to it. |
| I have broken a few toes. I heard the loud snap on the last one. That is a sound I could live my whole life without hearing again and be perfectly happy. On that last broken toe, half of my foot turned dark black and blue; that's a sure sign its busted. As has been said already, just tape it to toe next to it, take an advil and go about your business. The doc wouldnt do it any differently. |

Well, it is broken for sure. The area of my foot behind the little toe is now black and blue. I grabbed the toe to wiggle it, and it just flops around like a wet noodle. I would take the advice about cutting it off, but that has to hurt just as bad as breaking it. So I will pass on that. Damn little toes! |

This is personal experience, and probably not sound medical advice: The Neutral Observer has broken that little toe many times. Damn furniture keeps jumping out in front of Him. Just ignore it; it'll stop hurting in about a week, but will be tender for about 3. It's not really an inconvienience. The Neutral Observer snuck broken toes through a couple of physicals, and after the first day or two, they never hindered His running. Don't worry about using your foot, as you apparently can't permanently harm these things. A good pair of shoes helps in this, though, because it hurts if you wack it against something while it is healing. |

I think I've probably broken both little toes more than once. I'm not 100% positive because I didn't bother getting them x-rayed. They hurt like a sonuvabitch, and turned black and blue; so my best guess is the little toe was broke. Of course even with the pain a broken little toe didn't slow me down much at all. Of course these days if I break a toe I would want a couple of weeks to recover and a keg of beer. On a side note if you ever break a toe don't call 911. The EMTs and Paramedics get ticked off, and will enjoy inflicting more pain on your broken toe during the course of their "examination". I laughed when I heard that particular story when I was taking an EMT class. Crap my first post to these forums and it's about broken toes.hinking.gif |

painful thread. i broke my big toe when i was 12 or 13. i tried to kick my brother, missed and hit the wood stairs. that hurt more than when i broke my knee. i also got my big toe [same one] crushed under a saftey rail while it was being opened on a ride at the fair. music was loud, my brother or dad went to push it forward when the ride was done, it didn't go all the way so they leaned into it. apparently they didn't hear me screaming as they crushed the damn thing. |
