Beware the 5.0 update. It looks like they screwed the pooch on this one. BSODs left and right. Stick wth 4.5 until they get it together.

Just some friendly advice.

BSOD?????  I have ZA Pro (4.5.538.001 actually) and am due for and "upgrade" on my account (over 1 year). Until I'm sure what the BSOD and related problems are resolved,  but I'll be waiting.  Thanks for the heads up! Let me know when you can. I've been a ZA user for years.

This is the first upgrade that has failed me since ZoneAlarm was first released. I have it on 3 home computers, and they are all acting flakey. So, I uninstalled and reverted to 4.5.594.000.

Thanks for the heads up, I have it downloaded but not installed yet.

Too late.... I loaded it onto my desktop with no noticable problems so far. My laptop is a different story. I started getting the dreaded BSOD a few seconds after I booted it up and and before I could do anything else. I ended up having to boot to safe mode and doing a restore before the ZA upgrade. Things seem to be back to normal now.

Same happened to me last night - installed the upgrade,  and walked into the living room.  When I came back two minutes later, had the BSOD.

However, no problems since I rebooted.

BSOD is Blue Screen of Death.

Thanks for the heads up.

I have had lots of problems with software firewalls and antivirus over the years, these days I just use a hardware one.

If you can't I probably have the last few versions on my machine at home.  I'll either email it to you or burn it and send it to you.

Didn't get the BSOD but have given up on ZA due to it being very unstable.  Stuff on certain sites causes it to shut down and want you to restart it.  I finally just gave up.

I still think viruses are written by the folks at anti-virus companies to stimulate business.

Downloaded latest update, and installed on 3 computers:
2 XP Pro
1 ME

No BSOD
No problems.

there's a lot of unhappy traffic on the zone alarm forums,  hopefully we can find some help.

Yes you should definitely use a hardware router/SPI firewall using NAT translation if you are using a DSL or cable broadband access.  You still need an antivirus program.  A FW will not protect you from worms and other malware.

I'm not a ZA fan.  I believe Sygate Pro 5.5 is a better FW.  YMMV.

The automatic updgrade/update seems a bit flaky. Try this:

Download the newest version.  Unplug from the web.  Uninstall old ZoneAlarm, reboot, install new version.  Plug back into the Matrix after install.

On a trial version now, so far so good.
Spyware was getting out of control even after using Ad-Aware
and Spybot.

---edited to say---

First full day with this program and no spyware popping up.
It is amazing what goes on in the background of your pc without your knowledge, -WOW-
but thanks to this software, I am able to keep track of mostly everything coming or
going from my pc.

The 2 XP machines it's on seem to be okay so far. The Win2k machine is having major problems. Downgraded back to 4.5 and the Win2k box is back to normal.
