Beware the 5.0 update. It looks like they screwed the pooch on this one. BSODs left and right. Stick wth 4.5 until they get it together. Just some friendly advice. |
| BSOD????? I have ZA Pro (4.5.538.001 actually) and am due for and "upgrade" on my account (over 1 year). Until I'm sure what the BSOD and related problems are resolved, but I'll be waiting. Thanks for the heads up! Let me know when you can. I've been a ZA user for years. |
| Too late.... I loaded it onto my desktop with no noticable problems so far. My laptop is a different story. I started getting the dreaded BSOD a few seconds after I booted it up and and before I could do anything else. I ended up having to boot to safe mode and doing a restore before the ZA upgrade. Things seem to be back to normal now. |

Didn't get the BSOD but have given up on ZA due to it being very unstable. Stuff on certain sites causes it to shut down and want you to restart it. I finally just gave up. I still think viruses are written by the folks at anti-virus companies to stimulate business. |
| there's a lot of unhappy traffic on the zone alarm forums, hopefully we can find some help. |
Yes you should definitely use a hardware router/SPI firewall using NAT translation if you are using a DSL or cable broadband access. You still need an antivirus program. A FW will not protect you from worms and other malware. I'm not a ZA fan. I believe Sygate Pro 5.5 is a better FW. YMMV. |

On a trial version now, so far so good. Spyware was getting out of control even after using Ad-Aware and Spybot. ---edited to say--- First full day with this program and no spyware popping up. It is amazing what goes on in the background of your pc without your knowledge, -WOW- but thanks to this software, I am able to keep track of mostly everything coming or going from my pc. |
