Hola. Checked paper yesterday, found a Cetme 308 Rifle f/s w/ extras, 550. Too bad I can't buy it, since it does look tempting. If anyone else is interested, I can give you the number. Benw |

They were down to <$400 with accessories in the past year. Unless you are willing to do some work, forget about it, as these were not constructed well. You might find one that works well and is reasonably spec, but the odds are against you. FALs and G3 type (CETMEs) are apples and oranges in terms of construction. The G3 is made of cheap and easily made parts, but has to be constructed with specialty tools and a high degree of expertise. The FAL is made of expesnsive and difficult to manufacture parts, but is easily assembled. In many cases, Century didn't even get the FALs right, so you can imagine how badly they butchered the G3s. |

It pains me to see the bad name these poor misbegotten rifles have. I have a stamped receiver version, and other than refinish the crappy wood, its awesome. I know that I was lucky, but my El Chopo is one of my favorites, I have a ton of alloy G3 mags for it, and a can of Hirt, and it just runs like a Singer. Loud as hell too $550 would not be a bad price for one of the earlier stainless receiver moodles, IF it was constructed on a new or unissued parts kit, had an unground bolt, proper headspace, decent stocks, and had half a dozen mags that fit well (sometimes an issue with cast receiver modles). www.gunboards.com/forums/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=47 Go here for all CETME knowledge. |

I had one of the stainless receiver CETME's and it was a pretty nice rifle, decent shooter. Got rid of it because it was just too hard to mount a scope on and the iron sights on the CETME suck (IMHO). Didn't have any problems with it though and it hit where I aimed. I was lucky and avoided getting one with canted sights or the other myriad problems. The supposedly new parts guns that SOG is selling right now look pretty good if they are as advertised. That's still below what they were going for a few years ago when the first new parts guns were released I believe. Jason |
