Hey, that's pretty cool.

None of my S&W revolvers have Hillary Holes, though.

Thanks Op, I like that a lot better than the lock hole plugs that are out there. It's been a while since I've been into a newer Smith, but if I'm remembering correctly with that setup you could just file off the post on the inside of the flag that interfaces with the hammer and leave the flag in place, eliminating the gap on the left side of the hammer when you're looking down the sights. That always irked my ocd.

I've got a Smith 642 that has the hole. But I got it cheap in a PawnShop about 10 years ago. That lock has irritated me from day one. I've thought about buying the plug to delete it but that was like $40.

Ahh yeah but sure.
Who the hell makes an x frame besides Smiff?
So if ya want the badassedly biggestly big revolver, ya have to have one.

I forgot that Tony from Tonys Finest Big Bore Emporium has those latch peices.

Smallest frame they'll fit is K. I'd jump on one like a duck on a june bug if it fit a J frame.

That's what I thought but I read this on the original tread on these in the S&W Forum.

http://smith-wessonforum.com/140803958-post70.html

I just finished putting 2 of these on my J frames, a 351PD & a 60-14, they are a dab oversized & required a bit of fitting w/ small files but function perfectly. After having a 63-5 lock up while shooting I removed all parts of the IL from all of my guns (it's amazing how thin & flimsy the plunger is!). This covers the hole very nicely & looks great. The black latch looks nice along w/ the black sights on the 60-14 & like it was born on the black 351PD.
note- Tony Rumore of Tromix started the thread there

Requires a little filing and fitting but it works. Good thing it's stainless, just hit with some Casey's black to cover. Should I blacken the screw head as well?

Are all new S&Ws made with the lock?  I had a 442 with the lock and ended up giving it to my cousin.  Missed having it around and started looking for another recently, but couldn’t find one.  Happened to be at the local gs and they had one in stock.  Bought it and when I got home I realized it didn’t have a lock... score!

I don't actually mind the lock.  It's optional if you decide to engage it and you're free to make that decision yourself.

For some reason, S&W makes one model of 442 without a lock in it.

I've got one of the new model no lock guns a number of years ago.

I deleted the lock on my X frame 460. I have a couple Smiths with no lock.

I appreciate the effort, but that looks worse than the lock plug.

They did make 2. I think the 442 No Lock was intended to be an LEO item. They also made a 442 ProSeries No Lock that was cut for moon clips

Eta- There was another 442 No LockPro Series that was a Pinto with stainless cylinder.

I never understand why S&W doesn't make an extra cost option for revolvers without the Hillary hole.  They would be able to charge more money, and I imagine they would sell LOTS more without the Hillary hole, and they could save machining costs, parts costs, and the cost of engraving/etching that "L" to the left of the Hillary hole.

I think there are plenty of people who would gladly pay an extra $100 for a revolver without that unsightly hole.

Same but understand the hate for S&W "selling out" to the Clinton administration.

What I don't understand is why no one hates on Colt for doing similar things.
